Because she had a child of her own, Ming Mei felt an inexplicable tenderness whenever she saw other children.
Ming Mei squatted down and reached out to remove the leaves from the child's head, "Little guy, did you get hurt when you fell? Can you get up?"
The little boy still didn't look up. Ming Mei thought the child was hurt, so she reached out to pick him up, but the child flinched and struggled, not wanting Ming Mei to hold him.
Ming Mei thought that this child might be shy, so she reached out to grab his small hand. She noticed a scratch on the back of his fair, tender hand, and inexplicably felt a pang of heartache: "You're hurt. Does it hurt a lot? Your hands are so cold, aren't they?"
The little boy still ignored Ming Mei.
Ming Mei was very patient with children. She gently rubbed the little boy's head and said softly, "Little guy, are you lost? Where are your parents? I'll take you to them."
