For months now, James has found himself thinking negative thoughts, such as harming others or maybe taking over their minds.
In fact, he could barely remember the days when he wasn't thinking about those things.
Now, he stood at the edge of a cliff, overlooking a beautiful valley filled with lush greenery. The sun shone brightly overhead, reflecting off the waters of the lake. Birds fluttered among the trees, while squirrels scurried through the bushes.
James looked out over the land, admiring its beauty. He wanted so badly to live here. To experience life like this every day.
Yet deep inside, he knew he wouldn't survive long. There was too much darkness inside of him. There are too many terrible memories.
James turned around and made his way to his car, heading back home.
As he entered, he heard the familiar sounds of his wife preparing dinner. She always cooked with fresh ingredients from nearby farms and gardens. Tonight, however, they would eat out on the porch.
