They promised me 'a boat'
A safe sail to the golden side.
But when the current pulled me under.
They sold me down the river, whispered sweet lies to push me forward,
Then tied anchors to my ankles,
calling them as souvenirs.
The river swallowed me, their betrayal tasting like salt on my tongue,
While they cheered for the storm they sent me into.
Yep,
They sold me down the river, and called it a lesson that I should thank them for.
