Chapter 108 - Religious Foundation

Proceeding with her church stuff, Yuki left the e cube at the agreed upon time to meet with Carina, who was waiting in front of it amazed and in awe. Exerting through a gate at the center, she walked gracefully and more dramatically than necessary to Carina.

"Welcome, to my masterpiece!"

Yuki proudly presented the structure behind her to Carina and the other pedestrians. The smooth, black material contrasting sharply with her pure white clothes.

"T-this… Is supposed to be a church…?"

"You poor little thing, I completely forgot… You are new to the modern art of today!"

"Modern art…? That's… I never heard of it, I'm afraid."

"Well, naturally. It is because I just created it! But worry not, my designs will spread and conquer the world soon enough!"

"It didn't look that big in the blueprints… And isn't that just Section F…? What about the rest?"

"This is the entirety of the church part of the design. So it will have to do without the rest for now, as I lack recourses to finish it."

"About that… What is this material? It seems…"

"Unnatural? Divine? You have a keen eye, you adorable tomato!"

"I… Thank you?"

"It is true! I did use part of the castle to build this marvelous structure. But of course, that castle has not a single piece of material worthy of being built into my monument. Which is why, I used a secret trick!"

"…Is that all you will say to explain this?"

"It is, a miracle!"

"Alright then… If that's what you say it is, I will not doubt you. Though… I always found the idea of a church being conventionally beautiful kind of reassuring… The details on the walls, telling stories of holy events… But of course, your design is not bad!"

"Oh, you silly tomato…"

"Again tomato…"

"This is but a momentary appearance of what will come to be the greatest structure on the planet, mark my words! Once it is finished, you will regret even comparing this perfect piece of art to any other structure in history!"

"I-I see… So you plan on improving on the design over time?"

"…I wouldn't put it so dispassionate… But yes, the design will be improved upon once I have time and recourses, as will the size."

"I see! That's a relief! But what exact purpose does it serve now?"

"I told you it's a church!"

"Yes, but… We don't have any members?"

"Which is what I will take care of now, you faithful tomato~"

Yuki grabbed onto Carina's face, finding it extremely squishable for some reason. She then stepped forward, addressing the people who had gathered around the cube. By enhancing her voice through magic, her speech was heard by everyone present. Which although not the entire town, was more than half.

"Everyone, listen to me! I have been worried sick about all of your wellbeings… The burden you must carry, being freed of the empires oppression by my chosen savior Yamato, only to be forced into a war against them because they cannot let you live in peace… Hence, I've constructed this church to create a safe space for all of you. It shall serve as monument of what took place here not too long ago, and remind you of the day Emperor Yamato saved you through my divine decision to appoint him responsible for all of you! And with this town, this community, this growing country, this monument will grow as well! It shall last forever, as will the better future provided to you by Yamato, who has my full support and blessing. I ask of you, spread the word! Everyone who wants to show their gratitude, their belief and devotion to him, come to this building! Pray and devote yourself to this promised future, to secure our victory in the fight against the oppression of the Holy Empire of Humanity, who have refused to acknowledge what you know in your hearts to be the absolute, irrefutable truth!"

She turned around and opened the gate, which revealed the interior of the cube, which was one giant hall that, despite the cube lacking windows, was filled with light. Multiple floors filled with benches, all facing into the direction of a podium that stood infront of a statue of Yuki and Yamato holding hands.

"Y-you… Did that… In one night…?"

"Construction worker Yuki strikes again~!"

She gave the mesmerized Carina a wink, which was far more than a silly gesture and in Carina's eyes bordered on insanity. How could anyone create such a thing, and shrug it off as if they just made a sandwich for themselves, like a normal, everyday thing? If Yamato were here, even he would be surprised at the amount of detail and the sheer scale. Such a creation would have taken decades if not centuries for the people in this world, which naturally made Yuki even more proud of her work, it being still under construction as well. As the masses of people were lured into the church, as if charmed by the hypnotic voice of a mermaid steering ships into cliffs, Yuki stood on the podest and faced all her new followers with a bright, though performatively genuine smile. Her words would only continue to create a sense of Yamato's supremacy and presence in the minds of the people, the view becoming more and more common, as this would hence forth become a daily routine.

"Ah… And once again, my glorious master serves as the perfection humanity is ought to center around! I can't wait to express my love in form of this religious devotion across the entire world! And who knows? Maybe even beyond that! Once I gift him the Empire of Humanity, I can only imagine how else I will be able to express even more love…"

"Yuki? Do you have a moment?"

"Hm? Of course, my little tomato!"

"Do you… Like tomatoes?"

"Not in particular, but I don't hate them. Why?"

"Uh… No reason. Anyway, I was wondering, what made you choose Yamato? And there are other things I find confusing… Like, when you first came here, were you already an angel and just hid your identity? If so, why…"

"Isn't it obvious? It was his destiny, to achieve greatness and be supported by me with all my heart! As to my identity… I was always me, obviously. It was necessary that I hid my identity to asses the situation in this town through my own eyes."

"Although the true reason is of course so my sudden appearance would fit more the role of divine savior to ultimately win over the full support of the people. But I can hardly just tell her that… In hindsight, it might have made sense to create a separate persona from myself, to avoid this kind of confusion… But then again, I want to openly support Yamato and all his ideas as me! Not some random angel I play as while acting as two separate characters. I'm sure he knew I felt that way, and that's why he did not go down that route… Ah, I love you…"

"I… Still can't follow… "

"If you are wondering if it could have been anybody instead of Yamato… The answer is no. He is special and the only one I will ever support."

"If you ask me, that sounds a bit as if you are in—"

Yuki put her finger on Carina's lips, as what she was about to say would cause problems to the role she was supposed to embody for now.

"Shhh~ Don't be silly. Or… Do you think that would be acceptable, perhaps?"

"I don't know, I'm sorry… I shouldn't have said that. Though… If you want my honest opinion, I think your happiness comes first! Even if you think you have divine duties, if you truly wished to… Be with someone… In that way… It would be wrong to forbid you from acting on those feelings! No one has the right to do so, at least!"

"I see… Well, thank you for your opinion…"

"Awww, Carina, you sweet, adorable tomato! I knew I picked the right person to be my bestest friend in the whole world! How right you are, Yamato and I truly belong together! Even though it goes against your original beliefs, you are so kind and adorable! Truly a soul worthy of protection!"

"Uhm… Are you okay, Yuki? You look a little red… Do you have a fever? Can angels have that?"

"Ah, don't worry about it! It's just, I'm so happy we became friends!"

"Me too! I'm so glad I met you! I feel as though only good things have hallmarks to me ever since I first saw you enter the garden of the church! Though… I miss the garden a little…"

"Aw, worry not! You can have the garden in the castle!"

"I… I can? I don't think you can just give that to me without talking to Emperor Yamato first though…"

"Don't you worry about that! There's no way he will mind! Let's continue to do our best together, Carina!"

"Y-yes! Thank you so much!"

"Ah, I will be a bit busy for the next couple of days or so though… So could you maybe take over the daily speeches? I will provide the text, you would just have to read it to the people."

"Sure, I'd love to!"

"Great… Thank you very much~"

"Ah, and just like that, you too will be able to see just how immaculate he is… Because when humans read something over and over again, their understanding of the topic naturally increases. If the topic is opinion based, understanding in this case is synonymous to agreement to a certain degree. Of course, opposing ideas won't overtake you just because you read a piece of paper about them over and over again. However, if you already agree with the base of the idea, and just didn't take it to heart yet, it will absolutely make that happen… I wonder how he would have handled this… If we had the same approach, that would make me very happy. But even if not, I'd love to see his perspective regardless. Maybe I should go ask him? I finally managed to make some time for him through this after all… Wait for me, Master! I'm coming to seeand love you lots!"

Meanwhile the word of Yuki's speech spread across town like rapid fire. Since she was an icon of the town anyway, she could have easily gained influence through other means as well. Since she was in fact an actual angel, it left little room for nonbelievers to argue against her. After all, religion backed with irrefutable evidence becomes more and more like law to a world that is built around the belief of a higher power.
