Looks like a medieval fantasy show.

It's a Daniel Adler show. It's gonna be good.
u/spiffyrocks_2 replying (1.2k upvotes):
Yep. Based on his best-selling book A Song of Ice and Fire. It looks fucking great.

Yeah, definitely watching this.

This looks like they literally took everything off the books and put it on TV. It doesn't look like the typical Hollywood medieval grey filter bullshit. It looks REAL. Proper costumes, proper sets, proper casting. I'm not exaggerating when I say this might be the most faithful book-to-screen adaptation I've ever seen. The Iron Throne and Winterfell look completely accurate. The clothes, omg. I'm genuinely in awe.

Damn, Bobby B looks perfect. Sean feels a bit older, though.

I think this could be a smash hit. The books are great, and the trailer looks like it's taken straight off the pages. It's just perfect, every bit of it.

Daniel Adler? That means must-watch.

How does this guy have time to do all this? Movies, TV shows, books. I heard he's doing a movie with Tom Cruise too.

This and the new season of Percy Jackson. It's gonna be a great summer.

"We can start on the script next year," I said as I put down the glass of water after taking a sip.
I was having a nice lunch with Denis Villeneuve in London. I was there for The Graham Norton Show, and Denis had joined me to discuss the movie Midas had hired him to work on, one he joined very enthusiastically: Dune.
It was probably going to be Midas's biggest film yet, the most complex to shoot as well, and the one with the most money invested. So yes, there would be a lot riding on this.
Denis said, "I'm looking forward to working with you on this. Chris had nothing but praise for you."
"Thank you," I said. "I'm looking forward to working with you as well."
Our lunch continued as we went through more of the finer details of the movie, as well as filmmaking in general.
I was planning to direct my second movie, The Usual Suspects, by the end of next year, so I tried to get as much advice from other directors as possible.
After we went our separate ways, I made my way to the filming of The Graham Norton Show.
With A Feast for Crows being released in the summer and Game of Thrones premiering by the end of the month, I was part of the press tour for the series while also promoting the book a few weeks ahead of its release.
I arrived at the studio and was led backstage by one of the producers. Hair and makeup came next, quick touch-ups, nothing major. They checked my suit and made sure everything looked good under the lights.
After all that, I found myself waiting while being briefed on the show. They ran through the questions already planned and the general flow of the segment.
I liked The Graham Norton Show for its more relaxed, spontaneous atmosphere. Like all talk shows, they always prearranged talking points with guests, but what I appreciated was how it could turn into something wildly different once the cameras started rolling. Graham had a way of steering conversations into unexpected territory, and the energy of having multiple guests on the couch at once made it feel less like an interview and more like a party.
Since Blade Runner 2049 was released in a few weeks, Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling were going to be the other two guests. It was strange since I remembered this release later in the year in my old life but it seems the movie was being released early here.
I had met Ryan before, but never Harrison, so I was a bit starstruck to finally meet him.
It was Ryan who introduced me to him. We didn't get much time to talk because they were going on first, and I would come in about fifteen minutes later.
I waited backstage as the show began.
On a monitor in the green room, I saw Graham doing his opening intro and monologue. The applause rumbled through the studio as Graham's voice carried over the music.
"Please welcome Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling!"
The audience roared as they walked onto the stage.
The show began, and after about fifteen minutes of just the two of them, it was time for me to join.
Graham leaned forward with a grin. "Now it's time for our third guest to join us on the couch tonight. He's the man who seems to have taken over Hollywood, the one and only Daniel Adler!"
It was bigger applause than last time, that much I noticed, as I walked up the short stairs to the stage and into the warm, buzzing light of the studio.
Graham, already standing, walked over and motioned for me to sit.
"Please, please, sit down!" he said as I sat next to Harrison.
Graham smiled warmly. "Welcome back!"
"Good to be back," I said, then looked at the table. "Oh, you have water for me this time."
Graham quipped, "You're the one who told us you didn't drink last time."
Harrison muttered a dry quip. "You must be fun at parties."
The audience laughed.
I laughed as well. "Now I feel singled out."
Harrison leaned back. "Someone get this man a drink."
More laughter followed as someone brought in a glass of wine.
Graham looked faux offended. "Hope you're happy now."
I picked up the glass and took a sip. "That's the good stuff."
"Only the best for our guests."
Graham brought the show back to order. "So, Daniel, you've had quite a few months. I guess I could even say years."
I nodded.
"There are many who would like to know what happened," Graham continued.
The picture on the screen changed to the Oscars stage, where I was holding up the real envelope to the audience. It showed Margot trying to stifle laughter, Alejandro and Julian in a hug, and the rest of the cast looking embarrassed and amused.
"The infamous envelope-gate."
"That was quite a night," I said.
Ryan chimed in. "It was."
"Oh, what happened?" Harrison asked, as if he didn't already know.
The audience erupted in laughter.
Graham played along and gave a short explanation.
"Oh," Harrison said. "We all know why Warren did that."
Ryan covered his face, shaking his head.
"Warren got handed the wrong envelope," I said. "Best Visual Effects instead of Best Picture. You can see him checking it, showing it to Faye like 'this doesn't look right,' and she just… reads it out anyway."
More laughter.
Graham leaned forward. "And that wasn't the only big moment that went viral, it was your reaction to The Thing winning."
The screen showed my confused face as I looked around at Julian and the others.
More laughter.
Graham pointed at the screen. "That is a man who did not believe in his movie. Not one bit."
"Look, I was surprised, all right?" I said. "It's not a movie you'd expect to see winning an Oscar. It's a great movie, the best of last year, but the Academy has a…preference you could say"
"He's right," Harrison agreed.
"Do you even know what the movie is about?" Ryan asked.
Harrison only grinned as the audience laughed.
Graham brought the conversation back to me. "I mean, come on, Daniel. Your name is on the poster. It's Daniel Adler's The Thing."
He paused. "Can you imagine if the real winner had been La La Land or another movie, not Birdman?"
I sighed. "I try not to think about it."
Harrison asked, "Was that your first Oscar?"
"Well, I won three before," I said casually.
"Three?" Harrison said, shocked. He looked genuinely stunned.
More laughter came from the audience.
Harrison shook his head. "I haven't even won one."
The audience erupted in laughter once more.
Graham leaned in, grinning. "Did you know, Harrison, that Daniel here won two in one night?"
Harrison looked at me, deadpan. "Way to rub more salt in the wound."
More laughter.
"Three Oscars," Harrison muttered again at one point. "Unbelievable."
Ryan grinned. "And he's twenty-five?"
"Twenty-five," I confirmed.
"I hate you." Harrison added.
The segment continued, with Graham bringing up the next talking point.
Graham's eyes lit up. "You know what would have made the whole thing even better? If you had this on."
The screen behind him showed me wearing the eye patch.
The audience roared with laughter.
I then told the full story of what happened with the champagne bottle, and the whole segment was hijacked by Harrison, who shared his own after-awards night story involving a broken hotel door and a misunderstanding with security that had everyone in stitches.
The show continued with the focus shifting back to Harrison and Ryan, but Harrison kept bringing it back to me. The man was genuinely surprised by my Oscar wins and other accomplishments.
Graham leaned back in his chair, fingers drumming on his cards. "Now, Daniel… last time you were here, do you remember what happened?"
"Vaguely," I said with a grin.
"Vaguely!" Graham turned to the audience. "He says vaguely! I sat him right next to Tom Cruise, and I said—" He pointed at me dramatically. "I said, 'You two should make a movie together.'".
"And what did you say?" Graham asked me.
"I think I said it sounded good?"
"You did!" Graham leaned forward conspiratorially. "And I thought, 'Well, that's nice, they're being polite.' Talk show pleasantries, you know. Nothing ever comes of it."
He paused for effect.
"And then what happens? Three months ago, I'm reading Deadline, and what do I see?" He gestured grandly. "Daniel Adler and Tom Cruise working on a new movie togther!"
Big applause from the audience.
Graham pressed both hands to his chest. "I was so proud! I thought, 'I did that. Graham Norton, matchmaker of cinema!'"
More laughter.
"So naturally," Graham continued, spreading his arms wide, "I would like to make this a thing, where I set you up with actors to make movies with. And Daniel, you have two right here before you."
"I do have something with Ryan in mind, honestly, I'm not joking," I said.
Graham's eyes went wide. "Ohhh, I am so good at this!"
The audience cheered.
Harrison leaned forward. "What about me?"
The audience went "Awwww" in sympathy.
"Well," I said, "there was a movie I wanted you in. It was the movie that got me my first Oscar. It was called Twelve Angry Men."
Big applause erupted.
"Your agent said you weren't taking any movies at the time," I continued, "so we had to give that role to someone else."
Graham interjected, "So, Harrison, you could have had an Oscar by now if you'd just answered your phone?"
"I gotta fire my agent,"
The show continued with Graham promoting the new book and the series, and me talking about both A Feast for Crows and Game of Thrones, what fans could expect, how faithful the adaptation was, and how excited I was for people to see it all come to life.
"It's been years in the making," I said. "The cast is great, almost all of them are from here, actually…"
Huge cheers.
"…the production design is incredible, and Netflix really just gave us a blank check, and it shows."
The show wrapped up with the Big Red Chair segment.
Graham gestured to the chair. "All right, let's see who we have tonight!"
A girl in her early twenties walked up and sat down nervously.
Graham smiled. "Hello! What's your name?"
"Emma," she said.
"And what story do you have for us, Emma?"
Emma hesitated, then looked directly at me. "Actually, before I tell my story, I want to ask Daniel about something."
Graham raised his eyebrows. "Oh, this is new."
"It's about a certain book series," Emma began.
My hand moved toward the lever.
Harrison noticed. "What are you—"
"Specifically," Emma continued, "Percy Jack—"
CLUNK.
The chair flipped backward before she finished the word.
Gasps, then uproarious laughter as she disappeared backward.
"I didn't know you could do that," Harrison said.
"I want to do it next," he added.
I leaned back, grinning. "Can we get the next one please?"
"Harrison wants a go"
More laughter and applause followed as Emma walked off, laughing herself.
Graham pointed at me. "What was that?"
"No comment," I said.

Chrysos was rising fast.
Well, TikTok, which was made by Chrysos, was rising fast.
I made my way through the offices, a modern, open-plan workspace filled with developers and other staff working at standing desks, clustered around monitors.
There was one recent hire I wanted to meet, Alex. Haley's little sister had graduated recently, and we had swept her up immediately.
She was a genius and already an expert in what I was told was something to do with algorithms or AI or something. It was too technical for me to fully grasp, but the team raved about her.
"Daniel," Alex said when she saw me approaching.
"Little Alex, all grown up. Almost brings a tear to my eye," I said as I approached.
She giggled.
I gave her a hug. "How's everything going?"
"Really well," she said. "I wanted to thank you again for considering me for this position. It's been incredible."
I waved her off. "We're lucky to have you, from what I've been told."
In the last eight months, TikTok has exploded. The platform now has over 200 million active users worldwide. Revenue so far has reached $200 million, with projections showing it could reach $400 million by the end of the year. While we were losing more money than we were making, the app was adding roughly $1 billion to my net worth at current valuations, and that number kept climbing.
Alex and I talked for some time, mostly about her work and how the family was doing. Then the conversation shifted in an unexpected direction.
"So," Alex said, settling back into her chair, "there's something I wanted to show you."
I raised an eyebrow. "Okay?"
"Remember how I used to be basically your beta reader for Percy Jackson?"
I nodded.
"I may have drifted away from the fandom for a while, but recently I came back, you could say."
"And I thought I should really tell you about this."
She paused. "Daniel, you have to release the new book. The fandom is going crazy. Like, really crazy."
"It's not easy, Alex," I said. "I have so much other stuff to do. I'm sure they can wait a while longer."
Alex shook her head. "No. You don't understand."
I sighed. "They're not going crazy. They're just passionate."
Alex turned her laptop toward me. "I'm going to show you something that will change your mind. They are slowly going crazy."
On the screen was fanfiction.
What the hell? I thought.
The title read: Percy.
I leaned closer, confused. "What is this?"
"Just read it," Alex said, grinning.
It was a Misery fanfic.
What the fuck?
The book had come out months ago, was a bestseller, and was going to be made into a movie soon.
I began reading.
It was basically the plot of Misery, but with me as the captive author.
Daniel Adler woke up in pain.
His head throbbed. His legs felt wrong. He tried to move and realized he was strapped to a bed.
"What the—"
"You're awake!"
A woman appeared in the doorway. Mid-thirties, messy hair, wild eyes. She was holding a copy of The Last Olympian like it was a holy text.
"Who are you?" Daniel asked, his voice hoarse.
"I'm your biggest fan," she said, smiling.
It continued with the same plot as Misery, with Annie, the obsessed fan, forcing me to finish the new Percy Jackson series for her.
It even had the nightmare I once had about my old stalker, Cassie, complete with graphic details of breaking my leg.
Oh my god. Alex was right. Some people are going crazy.
Although I did kind of enjoy the ending.
Annie read every chapter. She laughed at the jokes. She cried at the emotional moments. She was happy.
Until she got to Chapter 15.
Her face went pale as she read.
Jason Grace stood over Percy Jackson's body. The son of Poseidon had fallen in battle, sacrificing himself to save the others. Annabeth knelt beside him, tears streaming down her face.
"No," she whispered. "No, no, no."
Jason placed a hand on her shoulder. "He died a hero."
Annabeth looked up at him. "Stay with me."
Jason nodded. "Always."
Annie's hands were shaking. She looked up at Daniel, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"What... what is this?" she whispered.
"It's the story," Daniel said quietly.
"You killed Percy," Annie said, her voice rising. "You KILLED PERCY."
"Yes, and he went out like a hero—"
"AND YOU REPLACED HIM WITH JASON?!" Annie screamed, throwing the laptop across the room. "JASON AND ANNABETH?! ARE YOU INSANE?!"
Daniel tried to stay calm. "It's how I want it to be."
Annie grabbed the manuscript and tore it in half.
"WRITE IT AGAIN," she screamed. "BRING HIM BACK."
"I can't—"
"WRITE IT AGAIN OR I SWEAR TO THE GODS—"
Well, I didn't really read any further.
"What the fuck did I just read?" I said.
Alex was laughing. "It has over 50,000 hits. People are writing sequel fanfics. It's funny, in some way."
I scrolled down. The comments were unhinged.
One said, If I could do this, I would...
I closed the laptop and looked at Alex. "Okay. Maybe they are going a little crazy."
Alex grinned. "Told you."
