Chapter 9 - Japan

5pm, Xin News Building

Yi Han arrived back in the office after an eventful morning, failing to catch Zhou Yang and his woman, fainting in Feng Yan's arms and now work is going south.

"Yi Han, there have been some changes to the Business Week live show, the management decided to postpone the show to a month later, hence you may need to notify the companies on the change of schedule. We have also found a female presenter to host the live show." - Manager Lin

"But Manager Lin...it wasn't easy to get both the companies on our show due to their busy schedules. Can't we pre-record instead of a live show?" Yi Han responded, thinking that she's going have to inform this bad news to Feng Capital, puts her in a difficult position.

Yi Han had no choice but to inform Chen-xi of the postponement.

----

Yi Han: Good afternoon, Mr Chen-xi. This is Yi Han from Xin News. I'm calling to inform you that the Business Time show has been postponed due to some unforeseen circumstances. Please accept my sincere apologies. I was wondering if we could reschedule it for one week later for Mr Feng.

Chen-xi: Good afternoon, Ms Liu. Unfortunately, Mr Feng will be leaving for a business trip to Japan in two days and will only be back two weeks later.

Yi Han: But… that would be too late. Do you think there's any chance he could make a special arrangement for just one day? We only need two hours of his time.

Chen-xi: That… I can't promise you. Mr Feng does not usually adjust his schedule to accommodate others. I will notify you if there are any changes.

Yi Han: Thank you, Mr Chen-xi. If there is any availability, I will definitely accommodate Mr Feng's schedule. I hope to hear good news from you, and once again, I'm sorry for the trouble.

-------

Yi Han looked dejected after the call. Without Feng Capital on the show, the impact on viewership would be undeniable. All she could do for now was wait for Chen-xi's response.

Later that day, with still no word from him, Yi Han decided to take matters into her own hands.

"Manager Lin, I'd like to request a trip to Japan in two days," she said firmly. "Since Feng Capital won't be able to attend Business Week in Shanghai, could you assign a filming team to accompany me and film in Japan instead? That way, we can still secure the segment and retain our viewers."

Manager Lin hesitated. "I can approve that… but won't you be busy preparing for your wedding? Do you really have the time?"

"Don't worry about that," Yi Han replied without missing a beat. "The show comes first. I'll prepare the necessary documents now and meet the filming team in Japan."

She clasped her hands together, eyes gleaming with determination. Full of motivation, she was resolved to make this work.

Pulling out her phone, Yi Han immediately sent a message to Chen-xi.

Good evening, Mr Chen-xi.

I've spoken to my manager and crew, and I'll be flying to Japan to film the show instead. This way, we can better accommodate Mr Feng's schedule without taking up too much of his time. Do you think you could put in a good word for me with Mr Feng? Please… please 🥺

She hit send, fingers crossed, her heart racing as she waited.

On the other side, Chen-xi received Yi Han's message with his head slightly tilted, a confused look crossing his face.

"I haven't even promised her anything… this woman really has no patience," he muttered under his breath.

Without delay, he approached Feng Yan to relay the sudden change in plans.

Feng Yan raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.

I haven't even agreed to the postponement, and she's already taking action?

What a feisty woman.

"I may not have the time," Feng Yan said calmly, his tone carrying unmistakable authority. "If she insists, she can try her luck in Japan. I'll see if I can spare some time then. Otherwise…" He paused briefly. "It may turn out to be a wasted trip for her."

Chen-xi nodded, understanding the implication.

He turned back to his phone and replied to Yi Han accordingly.

---------------

8:00 a.m., Tokyo Airport

Couple days later...Yi Han arrived at the airport with a small filming crew in tow. Despite the early hour, her expression was focused and resolute. Almost immediately, she pulled out her phone and sent a message to Chen-xi.

--

Hi Mr Chen-xi,

We've just arrived in Japan and will begin preparations for the show in three days. May I make an appointment with Mr Feng today to discuss the final details?

Filming address: 184 Chome, Chiyoda — Xin News 44231

— Liu Yi Han

The moment she slipped her phone back into her pocket, it rang.

RING RING

Yi Han answered at once.

Chen-xi: Hello, Ms Liu. I'm afraid Mr Feng isn't available today. He has meetings with clients throughout the day. Also, the filming details haven't been confirmed yet. Everything is still subject to Mr Feng's availability, and we can't guarantee he'll be able to fit it into his schedule.

Yi Han: Mr Chen-xi… in that case, I can wait until he finishes his meetings. Please, I really need to speak with him.

Chen-xi: But… Mr Feng won't be done anytime soon. It could be very late at night, if you're willing to wait.

Yi Han: That's fine. I don't mind waiting. May I trouble you to send me the address?

Chen-xi hesitated for a brief moment before replying.

Chen-xi: Ginza Zen Club, 46673.

Yi Han: Thank you so much, Mr Chen-xi.

She ended the call, determination etched into her features as Tokyo's morning bustle unfolded around her.

--------

Yi Han looked up the address and felt her heart sink slightly. The Ginza Zen Club was a high-end, members-only private club, known for its strict dress code and exclusivity. Non-members were not permitted entry under any circumstances.

That meant she wouldn't be able to get in unless Feng Yan came out himself.

The realization made her uneasy, but it didn't shake her resolve. No matter what, she had to see Feng Yan—even if it meant waiting.

Upon arriving at the hotel, Yi Han opened her luggage and froze. She hadn't packed a single outfit suitable for a private club of that caliber. After a brief moment of panic, she grabbed her coat and headed to a nearby mall, deciding to find an appropriate dress and something warm for the chilly Tokyo night.

Just as she was slipping into a fitting room—

RING RING

It's Zhou Yang.

Yi Han's sighs as she answered the call reluctantly.

"Hello, Yi Han? Are you still in the office?" Zhou Yang asked. "Shall we go for dinner?."

She froze.

In her rush, she had completely forgotten to tell him about the sudden business trip.

"Zhou Yang, I'm so sorry," Yi Han said quickly, fastening the zipper of the dress with one hand. "I've been so caught up with work that I forgot to tell you—I had to leave on a last-minute business trip. It's for the Business Week show."

"Business trip?" Zhou Yang paused. "Where?"

"…Japan."

There was a brief silence on the line before his voice hardened.

"Japan?" Zhou Yang said. "Yi Han, our wedding is coming up, but you don't seem to care about it at all."

The words landed heavily, echoing in the small fitting room as Yi Han stood there, phone pressed to her ear.

"I'm sorry, but don't worry—I'll be back in time for the wedding," Yi Han said briskly. "I have to go now. We'll talk later."

She ended the call without waiting for a reply.

Yi Han didn't look back at her phone. Slipping it into her bag, she grabbed her coat and left the hotel, hailing a taxi with clear purpose. The address of the private club was already on her screen.

Tonight, she had only one objective—to secure Feng Capital for the show.

On the other end of the line, Zhou Yang lowered his phone slowly, his expression turning cold.

"So she left for Japan without even telling me," he muttered. "Does she even consider me her boyfriend anymore?"

His jaw tightened, irritation settling deep in his gaze.

"She's getting out of hand these days…" Zhou Yang scoffed. "Maybe it's time I taught her a lesson—one that reminds her how a wife should treat her husband."

Zhou Yang had barely set his phone down when another voice cut through the quiet.

"Oh?" Lan Xin let out a soft, amused laugh as she leaned against the table, arms crossed. "Japan, at the last minute? That's impressive."

Zhou Yang frowned. "What do you mean?"

Lan Xin tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips—one that didn't reach her eyes. "Nothing. It's just… interesting." She tapped her finger lightly against her arm. "She's been busy lately, hasn't she? Working late, always rushing off, and now suddenly flying overseas without a word."

Her tone was light, almost teasing, but the implication lingered sharply in the air.

"You don't think that's strange?" Lan Xin continued casually. "I mean, a woman about to get married should be excited—dress fittings, planning, spending time with her fiancé." She shrugged. "Not disappearing to Japan for 'work.'"

Zhou Yang's expression darkened.

Lan Xin watched him closely and added, feigning innocence, "Of course, I'm sure Yi Han knows what she's doing. She's always been… very driven." Her lips curved upward. "Just hope she remembers what's really important."

The seed of doubt had been planted.

Lan Xin straightened, smoothing her sleeve, her eyes glinting with quiet satisfaction as she turned away.
