"She's fine," Merwyn said, his voice flat and devoid of its usual musical lilt. He set Emily gently on her feet, his arm possessively around her waist. "I'm here now."
Adrien's jaw tightened. "She was taken. While under our protection. We were searching, but Garamond's men..."
"They were clever," Kieran cut in, his voice a low growl. "They moved her through servant passages. We didn't realize until it was too late." He pushed himself off the wall, his red eyes fixed on Merwyn. "You were late."
Merwyn's smile was chillingly sweet. "I was busy."
"Busy?" Kieran scoffed. "Never heard of a busy fae."
Merwyn hummed. "I was investigating the bad feeling I mentioned. It's why I left in the first place. Bad feelings are important to investigate."
"Did you find anything?"
