Chapter 1 - {1} Worm Juice

Everyone dies eventually, this is a continuous rule in every universe that has life. Creatures sentient enough to try understanding death usually fear it, though some follow religions or other beliefs that help deal with what inevitably lays before them.

Some people believe an all powerful God would welcome you into its arms, a loving being. Others believed you would be reincarnated in your own world based on your deeds, either a noble human or a disgusting mosquito. Many, many beliefs exist and always will, however so will shitty reincarnation novels.

Hatchi, a young man about to graduate college was an enjoyer of such shitty novels. He didn't hold any real belief that he could be reincarnated as a handsome man with a harem of gorgeous women but.. it was a fun thing to dream of course. He was a young man after all, and while he enjoyed his day to day life to the best of his ability it was still not as fun as being a cool knight slaying dragons!

He was on his way now to pick up a physical copy of one such novel from his favorite shop. It was the first edition physical release of his favorite book! He had loved it ever since he'd began reading it when the first chapter came out, though he could never tell anyone the name since it was far too long. Hatchi had expected a line out the door, but as he stood looking through the windows of the store it seemed there were only two or three people waiting!

Excited by such amazing luck Hatchi made a terrible error and stepped into the street before looking both ways. In quite classical fashion a semi truck also wished to travel that road and promptly obliterated him. His vision filled with a vibrant blue, an unusual color for a semi truck. Screams of the shops few patrons filled the air as people ran out to attempt saving him, a minute too late.

Hatchi's last human thought was "I can't believe I didn't get my hands on a copy of 'Reincarnated into Another World and all the Beautiful Maidens Think I am Super Hot and Love Me, What a Lucky Man I am!' Before I died.."

Small green orbs began to float through his vision, they were the only thing in his vision. He kept them in his sight as they bobbed up and down. Hatchi wasn't entirely sure he had a body, but didn't feel stressed about it either. He supposed if he didn't have a brain then it would be hard to feel stress.

Occasionally a hole would open in the void and swallow one of the other floating orbs, he waited for a very long time to fall. It was hard to tell time with nothing to mark it, he thought and thought before he ran out of things to ponder and just zoned out. The orbs seemed to travel infinitely alongside him, until they fell one by one leaving him the only one left. He stayed the only one for a very, very long time. Hatchi thought this portion of his journey was probably longer than his entire lifetime, but it was difficult to tell. Pulling him from his absentmindedness and emerging from the darkness was an old rusted gate, it seemed to initially have been gold in color but had turned brown and red with the time it had been there causing it to rot away. It opened for him all by itself. The gates rusty hinges mage a screech that sounded deafening after so long in darkness and silence.

He hesitated to float through the gate, there were not supposed to be objects here. This space contained the little green orbs like him. It was only for the little green orbs, not even light existed here, but the gate did. Eventually he decided to float through, and just as he did a hole formed beneath and finally took him.

He instictually tried to open his eyes only to find he couldn't! He finally had a body but it was most definetly not human. He couldn't figure out what it was, so he tried a couple things like wiggling his fingers.. but they didn't exist. He tried blinking and still only found darkness, the only thing that seemed to work was when he tried thrashing his entire body! Everything he could feel was covered by a thin membrane and a liquid of some sort keeping him curled up unnaturally tight.. in a way no human would ever be able to. Hatchi had spent alot of time alone with his thoughts and has of course spent most of it imagining where the abyss would lead him when it finally swallowed him. This was his favorite of the possibilitys, being reincarnated!

After so long in a void he wasnt scared at all to find himself in a new body! He thought that speaking would be a bad idea while submersed in whatever liquid he was in. Instead he began to think words that had worked in the novels he read "skills" "stats" "open window" "status" relief flooded him as it opened! Light brown began forming a square before dark green swirls covered the edges making it appear quite fancy!

[Welcome to the world of Lasiena dear traveller. Unfortunately the usual 'main character' has been decided already so you have been given a casual role.] The screen faded as he finish reading before a new one appeared with the words [Loading Travellers Status] yet again it dissapeared on its own before displaying his stats.

[Name: Hatchi

Length: 2cm

Race: Lasiena common mud worm

Age: still in the egg..

Skills: none]

In Hatchi's years of thought, not once had he imagined reincarnation would lead to him becoming a worm. He thought maybe a tree at worst, becoming wise and old maybe even magical! Hatchi was a worm, so unimportant he didn't even know their average life span, and because of that he didn't know his own expected lifespan.

Movement on the soft shell of his egg snapped Hatchi out of his trance, if he didnt break out he wouldn't have any lifespan and would be sent back to the void! He struggled, flailing his body the best he could against the thin walls until a slit in the shell appeared. Feeling the small opening he shoved his head into it and pushed with all his might.

Finally the egg broke and Hatchi was free, along with all of the.. worm juice that flooded out with him.
