Chapter 269 - Chapter 265:- New York

She turned to him, eyes searching his face. Slowly, shyly, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his in a tender, lingering kiss. It was soft—filled with quiet warmth and gratitude.

When she pulled back just a little, her eyes still closed, she rested her head on his shoulder with a peaceful sigh.

And as the stars lit up the sky above them…

Rei felt something bloom quietly in her heart.

Like peace. Like joy. Like she could finally start living again.

As the stars twinkled above and the wind gently blew around them, Izuku and Rei stayed close. The quiet kiss, the warmth of each other, and the feeling of peace lingered in their hearts.

Eventually, Izuku looked at her. "Ready to head home?"

Rei gave a small nod. "Yeah. I think I am."

They stood up slowly, still holding hands. The walk back was quiet, but it wasn't heavy. It was soft, full of little glances and shy smiles.

When they reached the door, Izuku opened it gently. The soft lights of the home greeted them, warm and welcoming. Eri sat on the couch in her bunny pajamas, hugging a big stuffed bunny, swinging her legs. Her face lit up when she saw them.

When she saw them, she jumped up, "Rei! Big Brother!" she called, rushing over in her slippers.

Rei knelt down and caught her in a gentle hug. Eri's tiny arms wrapped around her tightly.

"Did you have fun?" Eri asked with wide eyes.

Rei chuckled softly. "Yes, I did. It was… really nice."

Eri grinned. "Good! I was waiting!"

She ran off for a second and came back with a brush, some colorful clips, and a few rubber bands.

"Can I do your hair?" she asked, holding everything up like a prize.

Rei blinked, surprised. "You want to braid my hair right?"

"Yeah! I saw a video!" Eri said proudly.

Rei chuckled and sat down on the floor. "Alright. Go ahead."

Eri climbed onto the couch behind her and started working with tiny hands, her tongue sticking out as she focused. She twisted strands, tried to loop them, and clipped random parts together.

It didn't look perfect—one side stuck out more than the other, and a few strands slipped free—but it made Rei smile.

"There!" Eri said, jumping down. "It's pretty, right?"

Rei touched her hair and nodded. "Very pretty. Thank you."

"Now me! Now me!" Eri said, spinning around and sitting in front of her.

Rei brushed Eri's hair gently and started braiding it. Her fingers were more careful, neater, and Eri sat quietly, only wiggling a little.

"Done," Rei said, tying the braid with a soft blue ribbon.

Eri touched it and smiled big. "We match!"

They both laughed.

Later, after brushing teeth and bedtime stories, Rei tucked Eri in. She adjusted the blanket around her.

"Good night," Rei whispered.

"Night night," Eri mumbled, already half-asleep.

The Next Morning

Rei woke up to soft sunlight through the window. She stretched slowly and sat up. Izuku was already up, packing a small bag with snacks, water, and a light jacket.

"Morning," he said when he saw her awake. "Are you up for a trip?"

Rei sat up more. "Where to?"

"New York City," he smiled. "Figured we'd look around. Take it easy."

She nodded with a small smile. "Okay."

Later – New York City

The city was loud and full of life. Tall buildings, honking cars, people moving in every direction. Rei held onto Izuku's arm, eyes wide, taking it all in.

Their first stop was Central Park. Trees lined the paths, and the sounds of the city faded a bit. They strolled together, sharing a hot pretzel from a cart. Rei looked up at the trees and the blue sky peeking through.

"It's nice here," she said.

They watched a street performer do tricks with his dog. Rei smiled when the dog barked on command and bowed.

After that, they walked to Times Square. Lights flashed from giant screens. People took pictures, music played from every corner.

Rei pointed at a screen playing an ad with a dancing mascot. "That's so weird."

Izuku laughed. "This place is full of weird."

They got matching keychains—hers had a tiny yellow taxi, his had the Statue of Liberty. Rei also picked up a soft scarf from a nearby shop.

Next, they took a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. Rei leaned against the rail, wind blowing her hair back.

"She's huge," she said, looking up at the statue.

"Wanna take a picture?" Izuku asked.

Rei nodded. They took a photo together, smiling with the statue behind them.

After that, they grabbed lunch at a small diner. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes. Rei tried to sip from her straw and ended up giggling when it made a loud slurp.

They walked down Fifth Avenue, window shopping. Rei stopped at a bookshop and browsed quietly. She bought a small journal with stars on the cover.

Later, as the sun began to set, they went up to a rooftop restaurant. The view of the skyline was beautiful—lights twinkling, buildings glowing, and a soft breeze blowing through.

Rei rested her chin on her hand, looking out at the city. "It's… a lot. But it's nice."

Izuku nodded. "It's a good kind of different."

They ate slowly, enjoying the view and the quiet. No rush. No noise between them.

As the sky turned darker and stars began to peek out again…

Rei sat there, peaceful and full from dinner, her hand resting in his.

No words needed. Just a quiet kind of calm.

And that was enough.

While the real Izuku—Toji as he now calls himself, spent the day with Rei…

The clone Izuku—moved silently through the side streets of New York. He wore a dark hoodie, blending into the crowd with ease. His eyes were sharp, scanning everything.

His appearance was the one he had before getting the quirk, same old deku. An appearance no one had seen for months at the very list.

He passed through alleys, slipping between buildings unnoticed.

No one saw him.

No one felt him.

He was a ghost moving through the city.

Hidden under his sleeve was a small device. Smooth, flat, and round like a coin. He pressed it against the wall of a local tech company's building as he passed by. It let out a soft blink—and then vanished completely, blending in with the surface.

He kept walking. No pause. No look back.

One down.

He moved from block to block—placing more of the devices on lampposts, rooftops, hidden under benches, even tucked behind tourist signs. As soon as each device was placed, it went invisible—camouflaging with the environment instantly.

Each one had a different function.

Izuku didn't stop. He didn't admire the city like his real self did. He had just one mission.

Near the edge of Chinatown, Izuku stopped at a quiet noodle shop. He didn't go inside. Instead, he slipped through the alley next to it and waited near the backdoor.

A woman appeared after a minute. Black coat. Mask. Hood up.

They didn't speak at first.

She pulled a folded paper from her coat and handed it to him.

Izuku opened it slowly. A list of names. Printed. Sorted by date and location.

"Is this all of them?" he asked.

She nodded once. "Everyone who came in and left the city. Past two months. Every single one tied to your criteria."

He studied the list for a few seconds before folding it and slipping it into his jacket.

Then he reached into his pocket and handed her a small black envelope.

She took it, gave a tiny nod, and turned to walk away. No words. No questions.

Toji turned too and disappeared into the city just as quietly.

Above them, the night sky shimmered with city lights.

Far away, Toji sat with Rei at the rooftop restaurant, her hand in his.

But Izuku—the clone—was already moving again.

Because while one side of him smiled under the stars…

The other side was setting up the next phase of his plan.

As the woman disappeared down the alley and Izuku turned to leave, the city behind him continued its usual chaos—horns honking, distant chatter, lights flickering on buildings—but he felt it.

Eyes.

Someone was watching.

Izuku didn't turn. Not yet.

He walked out of the alley like nothing happened, his senses stretching far. He heard a soft click. A camera shutter.

Then the sound of soft footsteps moving away quickly—too quiet for a normal person, but not quiet enough for him.

Across the street, high above on a fire escape, a man crouched. Black clothes. Camera in hand. A small earpiece plugged in.

He whispered into a tiny comm, "Target made contact with unknown woman. Exchanging—"

A voice cut him off from behind.

"Who are you calling?"

The man froze.

His heart jumped. Breath caught in his throat. 'He was just behind me. How?' he thought.

He spun around—but it was too late.

Izuku's hand was already through his chest.

Blood exploded from the man's mouth. His eyes went wide, staring in shock.

Izuku stood behind him, his arm plunged into the man's back, fingers wrapped around a beating heart. His face was calm. Cold.

Emotionless.

"Thought you could sneak up on me, did you?" Izuku said flatly, voice like ice.

The man choked on blood. Hands trembling. Legs weak.

Izuku slowly pulled his hand out—heart still in his grip.

The man stared at it. His own heart. Still pulsing… for just a second more.

With a blank look, Izuku crushed it in his palm.

Crack.

Squish.

He tossed the ruined heart aside, letting it land with a wet thud in the corner.

The man tried to speak—but no sound came. He dropped to his knees, eyes still open.

Dead before he hit the floor.

Izuku looked down at the body. No emotion. Just silence.

He took a breath and got to work.

In seconds, he cleaned everything.

The body. Gone.

The blood. Gone.

The camera—smashed and burned in a small, self-contained flame he released from a device on his belt.

The rooftop was spotless. As if no one had ever been there.

Izuku stood under the moonlight, wind brushing his coat, city noise far below.

His eyes stayed sharp.

They're already moving, he thought. Good. Let them try.

Then, without another word, he vanished into the night once more—leaving no trace behind.
