"What solution?" Fan Mei lifted her head expectantly to look at Fan Mother.
"Your father's idea is to send you abroad. You stay outside for two years, and when the controversy dies down, we'll find a suitable family for you to marry into."
"No, I don't want to." Fan Mei refused. "Being outside where everything is unfamiliar and no one to care for me, I don't want to go."
Outside has nothing as good as here at home. The Fan Family is a major power in B City. What would she be outside?
"Then you will be a walking joke? Letting everyone mock you daily?" Fan Mother rebuked angrily.
"There must be other ways, Mom. I don't want to go. If I am alone outside, I'll die." Fan Mei cried.
"Money will be given to you outside, just find someone there to take care of you, but spend wisely." Fan Mother admonished her.
Fan Mei held the edge of the quilt tightly. "But I'm not willing."
