Episode(118) No Talent For Jokes
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(118)
There was no resistance on the sword whatsoever.
I swung it and an arm was severed spinning through the air.
The same black particles of spiritual light from when it was cut several times before spurted profusely from its severed shoulder and the monster finally released a shriek.
The resentment in its eyes increased to a staggering level and so did its power.
Boom!
The level it exuded at this moment was no less than that of Yagar.
It felt a bit weaker but it was approaching this level.
And yet-
[Is this the limit?]
Although the power was still increasing even now, Nagisa felt like it would soon stop the moment it approached two thirds of Yagar's strength.
[So, ghost type monster can get up to this level of strength through resentment?]
Was it related to the strength of their spiritual vessel?
No, perhaps they could only get double that of their own level. Judging by its previous aura Nagisa could say it was at least at level 100 or 108 at the highest.
As for calling this weak, ask yourself. For Nagisa would a monster at this level truly be considered powerful when he could already defeat higher level opponents?
Then, this things current level should be comparable to level 200 or 220.
I should try creating a ghost type servant the next time I use art of death on a person.
Nagisa was just curious, since he could even borrow the innate abilities of his servants couldn't he borrow this ability to increase power as well?
As for having resentment? Nagisa only ever felt excitement during battles but he figured he could try supplementing resentment with excitement.
At least it was worth giving a try.
And if he could borrow this ability then he couldn't even tell how much stronger he could become.
It was just that, forming a complete spiritual vessel rather than implanting it into a physical vessel seemed difficult.
How would I even make the spiritual vessel interact with the physical world?
Simple necromancy could solve this issue, but once again he did not want a mindless corpse but a true companion.
Even if they would be unable to resist his orders, at the very least they should be capable of thinking for themselves.
After thinking, I can only think of creating a physical core that acts as the spiritual tie to this world.
I know that ghosts only appear because they have a tie in the world and cannot ascend unless they get rid of it.
Whether it was an unfulfilled wish or resentment, perhaps this tie acts as a core for them to stay present in the physical world?
But, if a ghost had a physical core it would have been possible to kill with physical attacks so no?
I looked at the ghost before me.
This was a magical world and ghosts undoubtedly involved magical theories as well. Perhaps, instead of simply creating a spiritual vessel from spiritual matter I could incorporate magical energy and create a magical vessel.
Magical energy was a power that allowed interaction with phenomena, and thus the world. Although spiritual matter had no attributes and existed outside of the world, combining it with mana may be able to reproduce a ghost's external structure.
Yes, Nagisa was right. This was why, unlike spirits, other spiritual type creatures could be hit as long as one used an overwhelming amount of mana or magical power of the major elements.
It was why, even being spirit-type creatures, ghosts, fairies and pixies were still called magical creatures as they were inevitably formed from mana and thus existed in the physical world through this power.
Unlike spirits that existed in the world due to the elements, these were magical creatures.
Well-
[I've got no idea whether this idea is correct or not]
For now, he would just focus on the battle.
The ghost swung the scythe with a backhand motion, its increased power and speed a notch greater than before.
Nagisa, avoiding the attack tilted his body vertically upside down when targeting the ghosts forearm with the sword.
Just how fast had it gotten, with spatial sense and its increase power could it even react to this?
As Nagisa thought this, the ghost still relying on its remaining arm spun the scythe knocking away the attack with a flutter of sparks.
Then, twirling it again it generated motion and swung it towards the upside down Nagisa's neck.
Indeed, it was quite fast and it seemed capable of utilizing its spatial perception even more now.
But, I had seen enough.
Holding the sword before the attack, I tanked the force using it as momentum and swung my body around.
Bam!
A heavy kick landed on the reapers face it scattered spiritual matter through the air.
However I hadn't finished yet, following a full rotation I slammed a heel into its face with the generated force its body spinning turning upside down.
However, it was still an undead creature.
The pain it felt from physical attacks were limited even if the damage was high.
Stopping its rotation in that upside down posture, the reaper swung the scythe full circle towards my center.
[Yeah, Nah. That's not gonna work again]
Clang!
Boom!
A shockwave spread out as the back of Nightfall met the scythe, sparks scattering as the scythe trembled trying to advance while nightfall didn't even shake as it clashed against it.
I sent a kick right to the upside down reapers stomach sending it soaring and crashing into the cavern wall.
This time I barely held back and the attack directly caved in the wall so far you could barely see the ghosts figure.
Then, summoning a shadow sword in my hand I sent it flying towards the reaper.
Shu!
Trailing a blindingly fast path, the shadow sword arrived before the reaper in a mere instant.
It tried to open a spatial tear, however already used to the fluctuations of energy I twitched my finger slighting and the sword spun away from the tear slashing through its remaining arm.
Finally losing its arm, the spatial tear vanished and I took a step while marking the position of the falling scythe.
Shu!
Unlike before, my figure did not blur. This single step was the true power of ghost step.
Moving silently like a ghost as if teleporting from one place to another I arrived before the ghost.
Its red yes glared daggers at me as if to say if it could go even higher it could defeat me.
However I shook my head.
[Goodbye]
The sword tip plunged right through its chest, at the same time I read the composition of its body as it scattered into particles of light.
It seemed my magical vessel theory was correct.
Right, it made sense. There was a consciousness called the soul and it existed within the spiritual vessel, however the spiritual vessel was not tied to this world.
So how else would one connect the spiritual vessel to the world, it seemed there always had to be three stages of existence. Soul, spirit and body.
Whether it was physical, magical or whatever there had to be a third existing.
The magical power fused with the spiritual matter seemed similar to shadow magic but it was different, it seemed more corrupted and seeped in negativity.
If that was the case, Nagisa figured that more than likely could just use the negative energy in black light core directly before converting it to mana to help create a ghost servant.
But, I'd need to first find a suitable person so that will have to wait.
At the side, the spirit queen was struck dumb her mouth completely wide open.
[This is just....too unreasonable]
Imagine, the monster that had caused her nightmares for who knew how many decades had been dealt with so easily.
And even with its last bursts of energy at that.
What kind of reaction should she even have in this situation?
Yes, her revenge was taken care of but seeing that from start to finish the one she resented was so easily dealt with felt like a blow to her pride.
[What's unreasonable?]
[Eek!]
What, what the-!?
So mentally tired, she hadn't even noticed when this guy had gotten so close. Not to mention-
[Wh-Why art though hanging upside down!?]
She was horrified thinking he might have become a ghost as well.
If not for that pretty face of his she might have started running already.
[Can't you see?-]
He grinned.
[Just hanging around! Hahaha]
The fight had gone splendidly and not only did he get to release some of his boredom but he even got a weapon.
He was in a good mood.
The question was what to do with it?
Should he use it as materials for one of his swords or keep it. He might not have a use for it but if he created a subordinate with the power for space it might come in handy for them.
As for exploiting the ghost, I thought about acquiring it's ability to phase through attacks however the skill level was low.
With master I could probably max out the proficiency in no time, however it was not an attack skill and would not be improved by 'Ruler' so it seemed pointless.
Instead, I took magical power.
It was gamble hoping that what I gained was not its original magical power but after powering up.
Fortunately-
[Mana-74,750]
Another wave gain!
However, hearing the joke the spirit queen that seemed tensed a moment ago sighed.
[Ye have no talent for the comedic arts]
Pfft!
Critical damage from a mosquito!
I felt like crying, hey. I was just trying to lighten the mood you damned water fly.
Damn, now my good mood is gone.
[Rather, human I will allow ye to explain thyself! How hath you accomplished this feat?]
She seemed to be saying that it was an honor for me to answer he questions.
Stupid fly!
