Chapter 45 - When duty calls

⚜️ Previously on — I'll Never Leave by Zorry Sunblaze ⚜️

🩸🔥 Vampires. Demons. Witches. Prophecy. Love so deep it hurts.

Vic didn't go to school that day. He couldn't—not after what happened.

They say he's too mature for a five-year-old. But they don't know the truth.

He's not just a boy. He's a vampire. A demon. A witch.

My son. My only peace.

We sat in silence.

Shawn and I.

The silence between us was louder than a scream.

Then I left the room.

And of course… he followed.

He wrapped his arms around me, but I didn't melt this time.

Not this time.

> "I'm sorry," he whispered.

"Why didn't you tell me, Shawn?"

"I didn't want to lose you."

But lies cut deeper than swords.

His tears fell.

Mine did too.

I said I'd leave.

I meant it.

But gods… it hurt.

I didn't want to walk away.

But I couldn't stay—

Not if his love was born from a prophecy, not truth.

> "Give me one reason to stay," I whispered.

"Make me believe again."

Will he come for me?

Or will the Demon Queen rise alone?

Shawn tried everything to stop me from leaving. His efforts were real—desperate, even. I could feel it in the way he held me, the way his eyes pleaded for another chance. I was this close to staying…

But fate? Fate had other plans.

---

A dark messenger appeared, cloaked in black mist and the scent of brimstone.

"May your reign live long," he said with a low bow.

I barely nodded, still feeling the weight of the moment. Shawn stood behind me, silent but present. Vic was already in his room—giving us the space we needed.

"Rebel souls have escaped the hell cells," the messenger reported grimly. "They're terrorizing the commoners who dwell there."

My heart sank. The prison was supposed to be impenetrable. How did they escape?

"What's Lucifer saying?" I asked sharply.

"As your assistant, he's doing all he can to capture the escapees—but he has failed." The words struck like daggers.

I turned to Shawn, my face painted in quiet fear. "Is it that bad?"

"It is, my Queen," the messenger replied. "There are… rumors. A child's scream. A little girl found dead. A shadow seen vanishing into the dark."

Even Feren, the bravest among messengers, looked haunted. If he was shaken, then hell truly was in chaos.

I couldn't risk taking Vic. Not there.

"Shawn, please... take care of my son."

As I stood to leave, Shawn pulled me into a kiss—a kiss both bitter and sweet. The kind that aches in your chest long after it ends. The kind that tastes like goodbye.

The messenger, flustered, turned around, trying to give us privacy. "May I accompany you, my Queen?"

"What about my son?" I asked, surprised.

Shawn stepped forward. "Let Ciecily watch over him. They could use the time together. Mother and son… they need to bond."

He was right. Vic and Keylen had always butted heads, and Ciecily hadn't spent enough time with him. Maybe this was the chance they needed.

"I just hope he doesn't hate us," I whispered.

"My Queen," Feren said softly, "should I prepare for your return?"

I nodded, heart heavy.

---

Upstairs, I found Vic studying on his laptop. When he saw my face, he didn't ask questions—just stood and wrapped his arms around me.

"Momma, are you okay?" he asked with an innocent smile.

I bent down and kissed his hair. "Baby, I need to tell you something."

He took my hand and pulled me to sit beside him. I didn't resist.

"There's trouble in hell, and I can't take you with me. It's dangerous, and you still have school."

His eyes welled up. "Baby already misses Momma…"

"I miss you too, angel. But I have no choice."

He nodded slowly. "What about Poppa?"

"Poppa has his duties too…" I caught myself before saying vampire. "…He needs to help me with some important things."

Vic accepted it, but with a heavy heart. "So I'll stay with Aunt Ciecily?"

"Yes. She'll look after you. And maybe you and Keylen can finally be friends."

He frowned. "I hurt Keylen last time… what if he doesn't like me anymore?"

I smiled. "Key is a good boy. He won't hurt you. And you're a good boy too."

He hugged me tightly, and the tears began to fall—from both of us.

Who could watch a mother and son cry and not cry too?

🔥 Hell opened its gates.

But this time, she walked in—

Wings out.

Heels on.

Fire in her wake.

Nyx returned to the underworld not as a prisoner…

But as its queen.

At her side?

Eren.

Tall. Beautiful. Dangerous.

Golden eyes. Golden wings. A shadow dressed in light.

They didn't speak—

But the silence burned.

The Pit had cracked.

The darkest souls were missing.

And no demon dared speak the truth.

> "Witches can't cross the gate," Lucifer said.

"Then that leaves only vampires," Nyx whispered.

"Exactly," Eren replied.

And suddenly, it made sense—

Why she called him.

Why she let him follow her into the dark.

Why even now, when everything was falling apart…

She still trusted him.

But trust was a dangerous thing.

Especially in Hell.

> "This wasn't brute force," he said. "It was a key."

"A stolen one?"

"Or a gift."

Someone was playing with blood-magic.

Someone ancient.

Forbidden.

Possibly… someone Eren once knew.

And beneath the fury and flame,

There it was again—

That slow, magnetic pull between them.

> "You brought me here for a reason."

"I needed someone who could see what I can't."

"And what do you see now?"

"Temptation."

They didn't touch.

But they didn't have to.

Everyone in that chamber felt the heat that never really died.

And as the soul mirrors flickered…

As shadows shifted across broken gates…

One truth became clear:

Hell is bleeding.

And love—real, raw, dangerous love—

Might be the sharpest blade of all.
