After Alice left home that night to check on Shawn, Cecily had a bad feeling. It was past midnight, and Alice was yet to return. "Do you think your sister is okay?" Mr. Nhai asked Cecily.
"Father, even I don't feel good about her going alone," Cecily said, worry evident in her voice.
"But I believe Shawn will not harm her," Mr. Nhai said.
The next morning, Alice did not return, and Cecily tried calling her phone, but it kept ringing without an answer. "Where in the world is my sister?" she said, feeling uneasy. As if something lit up in her brain, she took her phone and dialed a number. On the first ring, the person answered the call.
"Shawn, how's your health?" she asked. Shawn, on the other side, was still in bed.
"I'm not sick," he said.
"What then, who called Ali—" She was cut short by his sudden question.
"Where is she?" he asked in a cold and serious voice.
"Shawn, calm down," she said, trying to ease the tension between them.
"Why the f*ck should I calm down, huh, Cecily?" he asked, as if restraining himself from yelling.
"Shawn, I'm also as worried as you are. She received a phone call last night that you were in an accident. I offered to go with her, but she refused," she explained.
"After I find her, I'll punish you for your carelessness," he said.
"Shawn, please forgive me, I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again," she pleaded. He was done wasting his time, so he hung up without another word. He ran to take a quick shower, and when he was out, he took a dryer to dry his hair. It was then he caught sight of a lady who had just jumped out of a trash truck.
