Recap
"Benjamin," I said calmly, my voice low but firm, "relax. I think I know how to handle this. Let me take care of it, my love."
He studied me like a book page, his jaw tightening just a bit, but he nodded. Trust was a dangerous weapon in love, and I just chose to wield it in his favor.
I turned then, my posture straightening as I faced the woman and the child again. The little girl's eyes darted between us—cautious, curious.
The woman beside her clutched the child's hand a little too tightly, as if she feared she might vanish if she let go.
"Take Amara inside,"
I ordered smoothly, nodding once to the nearest maid who had paused in the hallway.
"Prepare a room for her and the lady she's with. Let them feel at home."
The woman hesitated, blinking, surprised at my kindness—but she said nothing. She gently nudged Amara forward, and together they followed the maid up the grand staircase, the little girl's feet making soft taps on the polished tile floor.
