_______
Liam stood frozen in the hallway long after Yvonne disappeared into the kitchen.
Her perfume still lingered in the air — heavy, expensive, suffocating.
He rubbed his temples. For months he'd told himself that Yvonne and Ava shared a certain resemblance — maybe that was why Leo had taken to Ava so quickly. But seeing them together now… he knew he'd been wrong.
They looked nothing alike.
Nothing at all.
Ava was warmth — soft blue eyes, calm voice, gentle presence.
Yvonne was fire — sharp smiles, cold words, a beauty that drew attention but never peace.
He exhaled slowly. What the hell are you doing back, Yvonne?
Upstairs, Ava sat on the bed rubbing her ball like stomach in silence.
Leo lay beside her, clutching his stuffed rabbit.
"Mommy Ava," he whispered, "is Mommy Yvonne staying for long?"
Ava's hand froze mid-motion. "I… I don't know, sunshine."
"She talks a lot," Leo muttered sleepily. "But she never hugs me like you do."
Her chest tightened. She smiled faintly and kissed his forehead. "its time for your afternoon nap . Now sleep, Leo."
As his breathing slowed, Ava's smile faded.
Yvonne's sudden return wasn't random — she could feel it.
Downstairs, Yvonne set two wine glasses on the counter as Liam walked in.
"Wine?" she asked sweetly.
"I don't drink this anymore," he said flatly.
"Oh, come on. You used to."
"That was a long time ago."
Her lips curved into a faint smirk. "You've changed."
"And you haven't," he replied.
The silence between them thickened. Yvonne twirled her glass lazily before setting it down.
"Do you know how strange it feels," she began, "coming home to find another woman living here? Playing mother to my child?"
"Playing mother?" Liam repeated, his tone sharp.
"Yes," she said, her smile tightening. "Leo calls her Mommy Ava. How do you think that makes me feel?"
He crossed his arms. "If you hadn't disappeared for years, maybe you wouldn't have to find out now."
Yvonne's eyes flashed with anger. "You think I wanted to leave? You made it easy, Liam — sending me away when I needed you most."
"You left," he said coldly. "Don't rewrite history."
She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "You still care about me. I can see it."
He stared at her, unreadable. "What I care about is Leo — not you."
Her smile faltered. For a brief moment, the mask slipped — revealing something darker beneath her calm.
"You think that woman upstairs can replace me?" she hissed. "She's nothing but a temporary distraction. When I'm done, she'll wish she never stepped into this house."
Liam's eyes narrowed. "Don't you dare go near her."
Yvonne smiled again, slow and deliberate. "Relax. I won't touch her… yet."
Then she turned, her voice suddenly bright and cheerful. "Now, where's Leo? Mommy's going to make his favorite pancakes for breakfast tomorrow."
Liam didn't move. He just watched her — the realization sinking deeper.
This wasn't the woman he'd fallen in love with.
This was someone else.
Someone dangerous.
The rest of the day went by without drama ,peace lasted while it lasted .
Morning sunlight streamed through the mansion's tall windows, painting the marble floors in soft gold. The scent of butter and syrup filled the air.
From the dining table, Ava watched quietly as Yvonne fluttered around the kitchen like she owned the place laughing too loudly, flipping pancakes she barely cooked, and calling out, "Leo, come eat with Mommy!" every few minutes.
Leo sat stiffly at the table, staring at his plate. "I don't like strawberries," he mumbled.
Yvonne's smile faltered for a second before she smoothed it over. "Oh, you used to love them, darling."
Ava frowned slightly. Used to?
She'd only known Leo for a month and in all that time, he'd never once liked strawberries.
When Yvonne looked away, Ava leaned close. "You don't have to eat them, sunshine," she whispered.
Leo's eyes brightened. "Okay, Mommy Ava."
The room went silent.
Yvonne's hand froze mid-motion, the spatula hovering over the pan.
"Excuse me?" she said, her tone sugary-sweet but sharp underneath. "What did you just call her?"
Leo blinked, nervous now. "Mommy Ava."
The sound of the spatula hitting the counter echoed through the kitchen.
Yvonne turned slowly, forcing a brittle smile. "Oh, how adorable," she said. "Children do get confused sometimes."
Ava's stomach tightened. "He's not confused. He just—"
"Oh, please," Yvonne interrupted. "You've been playing house while I was away. Don't get too comfortable."
"Yvonne," Liam's voice cut in from the hallway. He'd been watching long enough to hear the edge in her tone.
Both women froze.
"Enough," he said. "Leo calls who he's comfortable with. End of discussion."
Yvonne's smile didn't falter, but her eyes darkened. "Of course, darling. Whatever you say."
Ava glanced at Liam. Their eyes met — brief but full of unspoken tension — before she excused herself, taking Leo's hand.

Later That Day
Ava stood on the balcony ,watching Leo chase butterflies. The afternoon breeze carried laughter, sunlight, and a strange heaviness that wouldn't leave her chest.
She passed through Liam office when she heard voices faint, coming from the side hall near Liam's office.
"…you shouldn't be here," Liam was saying.
"Why not?" Yvonne's voice purred. "This is still my home."
"You left this home years ago," Liam said quietly. "You didn't even look back."
"I left because you made me," Yvonne snapped. "You and your pride. Don't act like I was the only one at fault."
There was silence for a long moment. Then Yvonne's voice softened, deceptively calm.
"Do you know what hurts the most, Liam? Not that you replaced me but that you replaced me with her. That woman upstairs… she's nothing. She doesn't belong here."
Ava's breath caught.
"She's good with Leo," Liam said simply. "He's happy with her."
"And you?" Yvonne pressed. "Are you happy with her?"
There was a pause — too long. Ava's heart pounded painfully in her chest.
Finally, Liam said, "That doesn't matter."
Yvonne laughed softly. "Oh, it does. Because I'm not leaving until I get back everything that's mine you, Leo, this house. And if that woman gets in my way…"
Ava stepped back before she could hear more, her pulse racing.
That Night
Ava couldn't sleep.
Every sound the ticking clock, the creak of the hall made her flinch.
Yvonne's words replayed in her head: "If that woman gets in my way…"
She turned on her side, one hand on her belly.
"Don't worry, baby," she whispered. "Mommy won't let anyone hurt us."
But deep down, she wasn't sure if she was reassuring the baby or herself.
