Chapter 21: Hero Names and Internships
Fairy Heroes Academia 21
Hero Names and Internships
"Shoto, where are you going?" Shoto's older sister, Fuyumi Todoroki, asked her brother as he walked to the front door.
"The hospital," He responded simply.
"What? Hold on, why?" She knew why, but she didn't know what brought this on. "You can't just visit. Not without telling Dad, right?"
"Whatever."
"But why go now?" Fuyumi asked, confused. "Why see her after all this time?"
"I'll be back." He called over his shoulder, opening the door and stepping out. Fuyumi moved to follow him, standing idly by the door, but not leaving the house, she watched him walk away.
Her eyes widened slightly as she noticed a blonde girl, the one who had won the Sports Festival for the first-years… Fuyumi smiled softly to herself before shutting the door. A girl… no wonder.
. . .
"Are you sure you're ready to do this, Shoto?" Lucy asked, "You can always give it a few days…" She suggested as they walked down the street.
Shoto shook his head, "I have to do this now. I need to talk to her."
Lucy nodded and they continued on, in silence.
"Look! Look, Mom!" A six-year-old girl pointed out, "It's her, the Princess!" She called out, causing Lucy to blush.
"Oh, it is!" The mother's hand flew to her mouth. "You two were amazing in the Sports Festival! My daughter and I are fans."
"My favorite outfit is the cow one! Yee-haw!" The daughter clapped.
"Aw, thank you! Both of you!" Lucy blushed slightly, giving them a peace sign, "I hope we'll continue to have your support!"
"Can you sign this?!" The girl held out a red notebook. Lucy giggled, immediately signing it, her heart melting for the girl. Shoto couldn't help but watch in awe at her kindness to strangers. The mother noticed this, bidding them farewell and gathering her daughter quickly.
"Hopefully we didn't ruin their date…" The mother said under her breath, causing Shoto's ears to pick up on it.
'A date? I wouldn't call this a date…' He thought as they continued walking, 'I would've planned something way nicer…'
"Shoto, what happened between your mother and you exactly?" Lucy pulled him out of his thoughts, "You don't need to tell me anything you don't want to… I'd just like to understand a bit more."
"Mom, I feel like I'm going crazy. I can't take it anymore. Every day, the children seem more like him. And Shoto– The child's left side sometimes looks unbearable to me. All I can see is his father."
"She really said that?" Lucy asked, her heart falling into her stomach.
"She didn't want to raise me anymore. She wanted to run away from the life she was living." Shoto responded as they neared the hospital. "Ever since that day. I thought the sight of me would cause my mother nothing but pain. So I never visited."
Lucy's relationship with her mother was so differentcompared to his.
"But we will always be bound to each other. By blood. By our history with my father. That's why… If I'm ever going to use this body and these powers to become a hero… If I'm going to give it everything I have…"
He sighed heavily, "She once told me it was okay to use my power to become who I want to be…" He looked into Lucy's eyes, "If I'm going to become the hero I want to be, I need to see her. There's so much we need to talk about."
Lucy nodded, "I write letters to my mom all the time… Just telling her about my day makes me feel better. I hope you'll be able to get what you need out of it." She smiled at him before pulling him to the door.
Upon entering the hospital, the staff all reacted with varying degrees of surprise. Shoto and Lucy confidently approached the receptionist, asking her for the information they needed. However, after reading Mrs. Todoroki's file, she was hesitant to give it out.
"Please, he needs to get in," Lucy pleaded. This is really important." The receptionist sighed and typed a few things onto her computer.
"I can allow family in, but unfortunately, you'll have to wait outside." She relented, and Lucy nodded, satisfied.
"No problem, I can wait as long as it takes." She patted Shoto's back. Shoto really appreciated it, but he shook his head.
"Thank you for joining me, but I feel like this might take longer than I think. You should go home for now, we'll have to hang out another day." Shoto smiled gratefully at her.
She bit her lip before nodding, "Make sure you write to me later and let me know how it goes!"
Shoto nodded, waving goodbye to her. The receptionist swooned over the young couple, admiring their communication. Shoto quirked his eyebrow at her expression, but didn't comment on it, as he was given information about his mother's room.
. . .
Lucy rushed home as quickly as she could. She had meant it when she said she would wait for Shoto, but something, or rather someone, had come up. Now, Levy and Lucy sat together in their shared room with a spectral visitor.
She floated in the air, her long, wavy, pastel yellow-blonde hair flowing freely along her back. Large green eyes stared around the room curiously. She had a frilly, pink layered robe with a red ribbon tied around her neck. This barefoot girl was Mavis Vermillion, Fairy Tail's founder and first master.
"I'm sure you're wondering how and why I got here." Mavis took control of the conversation, "The answer is actually simple." She said.
"I found you through your Guild marks." She smiled, "It was the power of your bond with Fairy Tail and the amount of magic you released that drew me to you two. I felt like I sensed you not too long ago, but it was too quick to notice."
"You must mean our Unison Raid during USJ… That's incredible!" Levy gasped, "But now that you've found us, what does that mean?"
Mavis frowned, "Not much, I'm afraid. The guild has been working to find you both, but we haven't yielded many results." She explained.
"Mirajane remembered a quest you both had taken, but there's no information on who left it…" She held a hand to her cheek. "This whole thing is such a mess."
"How… How is everyone back at home?" Lucy hesitantly asked the girl.
Mavis smiled, "They were very worried when you two disappeared. They've been trying to find information on how to get you two back, but there have also been other matters we've been having to take into account…"
"Other matters?" Levy questioned.
"Well, two other wizards have disappeared." She revealed to the shock of the girls, "Well, it was more worrying… One returned, but… He was found dead."
Lucy and Levy gasped in shock, feeling a lump in their throats.
"The one who died was Rufus Lore. The other still missing is Yukino Agria. Both wizards of Sabertooth." Mavis informed them.
"Rufus? He's dead?" Levy was astonished, wondering who could get someone like him.
"Yukino?!" Lucy cried, her blood running cold for her friend.
"Minerva Orland has also been reported missing for a while."
The two girls were still reeling in shock, trying to process the information, "Minerva too?" Lucy gaped.
"We haven't seen any sign of any of them… But could it really just be a coincidence?" Levy asked as she turned to Lucy, "There's nothing we can do but continue our mission until we find a way home…"
"Mission?" Mavis asked.
"Yeah, we're supposed to inspire light in a world of darkness or something like that…" Lucy revealed, "It was some sort of magical contract that brought us here."
Mavis nodded in understanding, "I see, that explains why you two are bound to be here. Hmm, unfortunately, all I can do is act as a messenger of sorts…"
"But after what I've seen from your battle, I'm sure you girls can handle yourselves." Mavis said, "I'll be checking in on you two from time to time now that I know where you are."
The girls nodded in understanding. After all, there wasn't much Mavis could do for them physically. "Thank you, first master." They said to her.
"I'll be back soon! I'll have to let the guild know you're both safe and sound! This will be sure to boost their morale!" She said as her body began to fade, "Take care of each other until I get back!"
Mavis was gone and Lucy and Levy were left alone together once more. They both smiled brightly, home felt a lot closer than it did before.
Lucy couldn't help but remember, "Yukino…" She was worried for her friend. If Rufus was dead and Yukino was still missing… What could it mean…?
"It's no use worrying ourselves sick over." Levy sighed, "Hopefully she's okay, but there isn't much we can do now…" She shook her head.
"You're right, Levy." Lucy sighed as well, "I think I need a bath to relax a little." Lucy decided as she moved to gather some of her bathtime items.
Bzzt.
Lucy's phone vibrated, and she pulled it out.
Shoto: Just got home, the talk with my mom made me feel better about some things, just like you said.
Lucy smiled to herself at the good news and typed her response to the half-and-half teen.
. . .
The days went by quickly as the students recovered. Classes started again like normal, and the Fairy Girls found themselves heading back to school.
Cameras flashed as they had photos taken of them. They took it in stride as they continued on with their way through the gate. They were used to having pictures taken of them, but usually, they were screaming about "Amnesia Girls," so it was nice to be recognized for their abilities.
Levy looked down at the article on her phone, a picture of Lucy proudly wearing her gold medal stared back at her.
"U.A. High School Sports Festival
Lucy Heartfilia Wins First-Year Competition
Final Results
1st - Lucy Heartfilia
2nd - Levy McGarden
3rd- Shoto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugo"
"It's a relief you girls don't need PR training." Recovery Girl laughed, "Imagine being as brash as that Bakugo fellow."
Levy blushed as they waved her goodbye, heading to their classroom.
"It's so weird that people recognize us from TV." Mina giggled, "Everyone wanted to talk to me on my way here."
"Yeah, me too!" Kirishima agreed.
"Lucy loves it." Levy laughed, "I think she gave a couple autographs."
Lucy blushed, "Well, they asked and I didn't want to say no…"
"I got noticed, too, by a bunch of elementary school brats." Kaminari sighed.
"Let me guess, they told you nice try?" Jiro laughed at her friend's face as his head dropped onto his desk. "It's not that bad, now we're kinda like celebrities." She shrugged.
The door opened as everyone settled into their seats. "Morning."
"Good morning, Mr. Aizawa!"
"Ribbit? Mr. Aizawa, you don't have bandages anymore." Tsuyu commented, "That's good news."
"The old lady went a little overboard in her treatment." Mr. Aizawa answered.
"Uh, Mr. Aziawa, we're missing some students today." Levy raised her hand in confusion, "Koda's not the type to miss a day."
Aizawa closed his eyes, "How astute of you to notice. There have been some… developments."
The class's interest was piqued as they leaned forward.
"Two students will no longer be in our class as of today…" The class immediately began murmuring in confusion and curiosity.
Aizawa cleared his throat, silencing them, "They're still attending U.A., but there's been some… shuffling."
"Two new students will be joining us today."
The door opened as if they were waiting for their cue, and in walked a familiar purple-haired boy.
"Hey." Shinso greeted, not expecting anyone to respond, "Guess we'll be classmates from now on."
The other student still stood out in the hall, confusing everyone.
"Well, come in. We don't have all day." Aziawa called out.
. . .
A day earlier…
"Yes, this would be the best course of action." Nezu nodded at Vlad King and Eraser Head.
"Are you sure, sir?" Vlad King asked, "I'm sure with a bit more time, things could change."
Nezu shook his head, "I wish there was another way, but at the moment this seems like it would be the best solution."
"Shinso is someone who slipped through the cracks, he's earned a spot in the course. Unfortunately, that means someone will have to step down for the time being…" Nezu explained.
"Mineta will have to be moved from the hero course to another course." He sighed, "We're just at capacity at the moment, this could only be temporary, but those are the facts. And he's received quite the amount of complaints from other students…"
"But what about the other switch?" Aizawa asked.
"A student has already displayed a huge hostility for Class 1-A. It seemed to have formed around the USJ incident from what I've gathered." Nazu replied, "Koda is a kind boy who I believe will act the most maturely about being moved to Class 1-B."
"The other troubled student will be put into Class 1-A as a sort of exposure therapy, although he won't be happy about it, he must learn to put his anger aside to work with them," Nezu said. He wasn't trying to be malicious, he just had to think of the future. Closing his eyes he turned away.
"I will continue to plan accordingly, but as of this moment, that is what is necessary for these students," Nezu said, dismissing the two teachers, who had no choice but to agree.
. . .
"You've got to be kidding me?!" Bakugo groaned.
"No way! Him?" Kirishima gasped.
Neito Monoma crossed his arms and looked away from the class, "I didn't ask for this!"
"Settle down!" Aizawa commanded, "You're all mature enough to handle this accordingly. Like it or not, the board has decided that this is what needs to be done."
"But what about Koda and Mineta?" Lucy asked the question on everyone's mind.
"Koda has been moved to Class 1-B, and Mineta is now in the Management Course," Aziawa answered. "Shinso, Monoma, take their empty seats."
Shinso went and sat right behind Izuku in Mineta's old seat, while Monoma reluctantly sat in front of Lucy in Koda's old seat.
"Hey, welcome to our class." Lucy tried, but Monoma stayed facing away from her.
"Whatever."
"Rude!" She huffed to herself before deciding to ignore him for now.
"Moving on." Aizawa said, "We have a big class today on Hero Informatics."
'Oh no!' Many of the students thought, 'Any more news to shake up our day?!'
"You need codenames." Aizawa explained, "Time to pick your hero identities."
"This is gonna be totally awesome!" The atmosphere totally shifted in the room, with the only person who didn't seem too excited being Monoma.
Aizawa growled, his eyes flashing red.
"Ssssshhhh…" The class shifted back to being calm and attentive.
"This is related to the pro hero draft picks that I mentioned last time we were in class together." Aizawa continued, "Normally, students don't have to worry about the draft yet. Not until their second or third year, actually, but your class is different."
"In fact, by extending offers to first-years like you, pros are essentially investing in your potential. Any offers can be rescinded if their interest in you dies down before graduation, though." Aizawa finished.
"So we'll have to work hard even after we've been recruited." Levy surmised.
"Correct. Now. Here are the totals for those of you who got offers."
Lucy: 4421
Levy: 4150
Todoroki: 4123
Bakugo: 4056
Midoriya: 523
Iida: 330
Yaoyorozu: 272
"Usually they're more spread out, but there's a gap this year." The number only decreased for the rest of the students. "Despite these results, you'll all be interning with pros. Got it?" Aizawa told them.
"You already got to experience combat with real villains during the attack on the USJ facility. But it'll still be helpful to see pros at work. Up close and personal, in the field. Firsthand."
"And for that, we need hero names!" Izuku called.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" Ochaco grinned.
"These hero names will likely be temporary, but take them seriously or…" Aizawa was cut off by the door sliding open.
"You'll have hell to pay later!" Midnight finished as she strutted in. Many boys in the class blushed or drooled at the sexy hero walking in, "What you pick today could be your code name for life."
"You better be careful, or you'll be stuck with something utterly indecent." Her heels clicked as she walked.
"It's Midnight!" The class called.
"Yeah. She's got a good point." Aizawa said, "Midnight is going to have final approval over your names." He reached down, grabbing his sleeping bag. "It's not my forte."
After all, Aizawa let Hizashi Yamada, aka Present Mic, give him his hero name. He hadn't cared much at all, so when the blond suggested "Eraser Head," Aziawa just said "Whatever" and rolled with it.
"The name you give yourself is important." Aziawa lectured, "It helps you reinforce your image and shows what kind of hero you wanna be in the future. A codename tells people exactly what you represent."
Everyone was given dry-erase boards and markers in order to write their hero names. Squeaks filled the air as the students wrote down their ideas. Some struggled while others were gingerly writing their names without worry.
"Now, students, who among you is ready to share?" Midnight asked after a few moments.
'We're presenting these?' Kirishima's eyes widened.
'Oh, great! Who's got the balls to go first?' Sero winced, not wanting to be the one who kicked things off.
Aoyama confidently walked to the front of the classroom, to his classmates' surprise, they could only guess what a guy like him would choose.
"Hold your breath." He held his board up from behind to build suspense, "The Shining Hero." He held his board high, "My name is: I can not stop twinkling!"
"Mon amis. You can't deny my sparkle."
Everyone was taken aback by this, not expecting that in the least.
"It'll be better this way." Midnight said, using a marker to simplify it to: "Can't stop twinkling."
"It's stunning, mademoiselle." He complimented, liking the change.
'She likes it?' The other students were surprised once more.
"Okie dokie, lemme go next!" Mina jumped excitedly to the front of the class, "My code name: Alien Queen!"
"Hold on– like that horrible monster with the acidic blood?" Midnight asked, referring to a Xenomorph, "I don't think so! You might get copyrighted." She shrugged afterward, although she didn't like that alien's design…
"Dang it." Mina sagged, walking back to her seat.
'That one wasn't okay?' The students were at a loss for what to choose, the standards so far had been… unconventional.
'Since the first two were so weird, I feel like I have to come up with something really clever now.' Was the consensus of most of the students.
"Ribbit." Tsuyu raised her hand, "I think I've got one. Okay if I go next?"
"Come on up!" Midnight jovially gestured.
"I've had this name in mind since grade school." She flipped her board over, "Rainy Season Hero: Froppy!"
"That's delightful!" Midnight clasped her hands together. "It makes you sound approachable."
The tense atmosphere was lifted. Finally hearing a name that worked that wasn't so strange, everyone felt themselves becoming relaxed with their excitement only building.
"What a great example of a name everyone will love!"
"Froppy! Froppy! Froppy! Froppy!" Many of the students chanted, now that she set the bar.
"I've got mine, too!" Kirishima held his board, "The Sturdy Hero: Red Riot!"
"Red Riot? Interesting." Midnight immediately knew why, "You're paying homage to the Chivalrous Hero, Crimson Riot, yes?"
"That's right. He may be kind of old school, but someday, I wanna be just like he was." Kirishima rubbed the back of his head. "Crimson is my idol."
"Hm. If you're bearing the name of someone you admire, you have that much to live up to."
"I accept the challenge." He confidently flexed.
His classmates couldn't help but admire his dedication, it gave a couple of them a few ideas, more specifically, our Fairy Girls.
'Paying homage, huh…?' Lucy thought as she began to write something down on her board.
'I have the perfect name!' Levy grinned to herself as she wrote down her own codename.
Jiro ran up to the board after chuckling at something she said to Kaminari, "The Hearing Hero. I'm Earphone Jack."
"Now that's a good one!" Midnight pointed, impressed by the cleverness of the punk girl.
Lucy walked up to the front. The class was eager to hear the codename the girl came up with. Flipping her board over, it was there in meticulous writing, "The Celestial Hero: Fairy Princess!"
"Ooh, how sweet!" Midnight called, "I've heard the rumors of your lineage, your highness!"
"Haha, I'm not a real Princess." Lucy waved it off, "And I'm no Titania, but she is a dear friend."
Many shrugged off her comment and instead focused on something else.
"Don't let her lie to you!" Jiro called, "We've seen her servants!"
"They were friends!" Lucy argued.
"Even the goat?" Yaomomo asked.
"Yes!" Lucy threw her arms in the air.
"She's friends with a Princess, too!" Levy called from the front of the class.
"While that may be true," Lucy walked back to her desk, "That doesn't mean I am one!"
"Now, now." Midnight interrupted, "No time to waste! Who's next?"
Shoji went up, "The Tentacle Hero, Tentacole!"
"A nice pormanteu!" Midnight complimented.
Sero's turn! "The Taping Hero, Cellophane!"
"That's on the nose. Good work!" Midnight gave a thumbs-up.
"Martial Arts Hero: Tailman." Ojiro flexed his tail.
"No surprise with that one, I guess!" Midnight chuckled.
Levy walked up to the front, "The Letter Hero, Shadow Gear!"
"Oh my, how unexpected!" Midnight grinned, "How ever did you come up with it?"
"It's a name that's meant a lot to me for a long time now," She smiled softly, thinking of her teammates, Jet and Droy. "My friends and I came up with it together."
"The sentimentality is adorable!" Midnight cooed as Levy took her seat. "Next up!"
"Pinky!" Mina shouted confidently, remembering what Bakugo called her during their battle at the Sports Festival, better than raccoon eyes at least…
"Make those looks work for you, girl!" Midnight encouraged.
"Stun Gun Hero: I am Charge Bolt!" Kaminari smacked his board, "Electric, don'tcha think?"
"Makes me all tingly!" Midnight declared, "Now come on, who's gonna step up next?"
"I hope I can live up to this name." Momo had her neat writing, "The Everything Hero: I'm Creati!"
"Creati-ve!" Midnight called.
"Cute!" Levy clapped.
"Shoto," Shoto said plainly.
"Just your name? Is that it?" Midnight crossed her arms.
"Uh-huh." He responded.
"I like it, Shoto!" Lucy called.
"Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi." Tokoyami declared.
"Ah! God of the night!" Midnight nodded excitedly.
"The Hypnosis Hero: Nighthide." Shinso gave a lazy, lopsided grin.
"Consider me transfixed!" Midnight squealed.
Monoma stood in front of the class, a smug look on his face, "The Quirk Stealing Hero: Phantom Thief!"
"How mysterious!" Midnight said.
"Hm, not bad actually." Lucy saw the trope and had even tried writing about an invisible jewel thief before.
"As if I need your approval." Monoma scoffed, settling back into his seat.
"King Explosion Murder." Bakugo's intense delivery of the name didn't help his odds at keeping it.
"I'm gonna say that one's a little too violent." Midnight shook her head.
"Whaddaya mean?!"
"Why don't you be Explosion Boy?" Kirishima suggested.
"Shut up, shitty hair!"
"Why not use Ground Zero?" Levy suggested, as Bakugo looked at her with a blank expression, before sitting down. Levy frowned, not even getting a rise out of him or anything…
"Okay. My turn." Ochaco walked up, holding her board to her chest. "This is the name I thought of: Uravity!"
"I just love that!" Midnight clapped.
"To be honest, choosing names is going faster than I thought it would." Midnight glanced at the clock, "All we have left is young Bakugo, who needs to rethink his, and Iida."
"Oh yes, and Midoriya, too." She said, noting the green-haired teen.
Tenya frowned as he stared intensely at the board. His brother… He had told him after his run-in with the villain that he wasn't able to feel his legs. Tenya had been devastated at the news, his brother still had so many people left to inspire…
But then… He offered him his hero name, Ingenium. And suddenly it all became more real. His brother, his hero, was forced into an early retirement. And now he wanted him to take his name, to hold the mantel of Ingenium.
Tenya's marker moved, 'Ing–' His hand trembled as he wrote the name… But he couldn't finish it. He couldn't bring himself to do it just yet… Erasing it, he opted for something simpler at the moment.
"Tenya."
"You're using your real name, too?"
Tenya couldn't bring himself to explain or answer, and Midnight accepted it nonetheless.
"Well, Midoriya, are you ready?"
"Oh. Yes!"
Izuku walked up to the front of the class, his resolve unwavering. He showed his board, causing his classmates to gasp at the words.
"Really, Midoriya?" Momo asked.
"You sure about that?" Kaminari probed.
"Yeah, man, remember, that could be your name forever," Kirishima added.
"Right. I used to hate it." Izuku revealed, "But, then something changed. I guess… Someone taught me that it could have a different meaning." He glanced at Ochaco before looking away. "And that had a huge impact on how I felt."
He smiled brightly, "So, now I really like it."
He looked up at the class, "Deku. That has to be my codename!"
Bakugo, who had been so focused on his name, looked up for the first time, sure as hell not expecting the nerd to use that name.
Ochaco happily beamed at the name and his new attitude toward it. She was glad he could make it his own, instead of something that caused him unhappiness.
Lucy couldn't help but notice the looks the two gave each other. Suddenly, she was giggling behind her hand, feeling possessed by a certain blue cat. 'They liiiiiiiike each other!'
. . .
"Now these are some unexpected offers." Cementoss was amazed, looking at the number of heroes gunning for the first-years. There was a name that stood out above the others, though: Pro Hero Mirko. She wasn't one to work with teams, so seeing her name was a pleasant surprise.
Scrolling through the next few names, he noticed something.
"Looky here." Ishiyama nudged Toshinori.
"This one's for Midoriya."
"He's after him!" Toshinori's eyes widened after reading the name… Gran Torino. "Are you kidding me?!"
. . .
"LORD EXPLOSION MUDER!" Bakugo exclaimed, back at the front of the class once more.
"That's basically the same thing." Midnight deadpanned, wondering if his was going to take longer…
A few minutes later…
"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we can go back to talking about your upcoming internships." Aizawa was awake, his sleeping bag pulled down to his hips. "They'll last for one week."
"Those of you who received offers will choose from amongst those. Everyone else will receive a different list." He held up some forms for the students to fill out. "You have a lot to think about."
"There are around 40 agencies across the country who've agreed to take on interns from your class." Aizawa informed, "Each agency has a different specialty that its heroes focus on. Keep that in mind."
Midnight, who had been standing beside him, decided to speak, "Imagine you were Pro Hero Thirteen." She said bringing the astronaut-themed hero, "You'd want to choose a place that focuses on rescuing people, not fighting villains. Understand?"
"Think carefully before you decide." Their teacher cautioned, knowing some might want to just barrel through.
DING DONG! BING BONG!
The bell rang, and the students looked over their forms and choices with excitement over the possibilities. "Turn in your choices before the weekend," Aizawa informed.
"So we have two days to decide," Lucy said.
"Yeah, so you should start now." Aizawa walked out the the room, with Midnight waving at the students as she followed. "You're dismissed." He told the class.
Shoto gasped, though he should've expected it… 'Endeavor Hero Agency,' his father's agency.
Levy looked over her own options, she wasn't expecting so many… She wasn't expecting any 'cause they just learned about this today!
She was reading through the list when a title caught her attention.
"The Magic Hero… Majestic." She read aloud, "Hmm…"
"Who are you thinking of, Lu?" Levy asked as the rest of the students discussed amongst themselves.
"Well, I was thinking about the–" She was approaching Levy when she noticed something about Izuku, "Why are you trembling?" Izuku was in his seat, looking over his offers, but was indeed trembling.
"Oh. This? It's exercise." If one looked closer, they could see that he wasn't actually sitting down on his chair all the way. Instead, he was hovering over it slightly, letting his legs hold him up.
"Exercise!" Ochaco leaned closer to look as she walked up as well. "Were you doing that during the whole class?"
Other students gathered to look too.
"There's no way!" Mina gasped.
"No wonder you were shaking the whole class," Shinso spoke up from his seat behind him.
"That's so smart!" Ojiro added, "The isometric muscle contraction that's needed to hold your body above your seat makes it an easy way to work out without moving."
"That's some dedication, Izuku!" Levy commented.
Bakugo was irritated with all the students gathered around complimenting Deku, "Idiots."
"'Tis skill, not strength, that governs a ship," Tokoyami commented from his desk.
Monoma rolled his eyes at the class's antics. Deciding to keep his focus on choosing a good internship from the list he was given.
Tenya didn't join the group either. Instead, he reviewed the list before choosing the option that suited his current needs… appropriately.
"Ah, there you two are!" Mavis's head popped in from the wall.
"Eeek!" Levy and Lucy shrieked in surprise.
"AHH!" The rest of the class jumped, rushing to check on the girls.
"What's wrong?" Jiro asked in concern.
"Why'd you scream?" Shoji looked over.
Levy and Levy both scrambled to explain.
"Oh– Uh, you see–" "Funny story– actually–"
They both looked at each other, waiting for the other one to explain… The rest of the class leaned in expectantly.
"Tell them you saw a ghost!" Mavis called.
"We saw…" Levy started, not sure if she wanted to say.
"A mouse?" Lucy finished uncertainly.
"A mouse?!" Mavis huffed.
"You're afraid of mice?" Kirishima asked, "I guess we all have our fears." He shrugged.
"Someone should inform Mr. Aizawa." Kaminari shuddered.
The class gathered their belongings. "Hey, Deku! Wanna walk together?" Ochaco walked toward the boy.
Izuku nodded as Ochaco turned around, "Lucy, Levy, Iida, come with u–" Tenya's seat was empty though, when the group turned to look.
"When did he leave?" Levy tilted her head, "I didn't even see him pack up…"
"I bet he already decided where he wants to do his internship," Izuku suggested as they all walked to the door. "My guess is he's turning his forms in right now."
Mavis floated after them, picking up on the fact that the girls weren't talking to her on purpose. As they went to leave, when Izuku touched the door handle, All Might came rushing forward, his body leaning down to match Izuku's height.
"I am here! In a bizarre position!" He laughed.
"I like him!" Mavis decided, seeing the man's impressive speed.
"Hi, come with me a sec." All Might told the freckled teen.
"I'll meet you at the front gate," Izuku told the girls. If it ends up taking longer than I think, I'll message you." He followed his teacher, eager to talk to the man, as always.
The girls waved him off as they all walked out. "Wonder what that's all about!" Ochaco commented with a smile.
The fairy girls already knew about his secret but didn't know what All Might could want with him at the moment, so they just shrugged.
"Oh! So did you both really see a mouse?" Ochaco asked, actually wondering about that.
"Uh, we saw… something?" Levy tried.
"Could've just been a trick of the light…" Lucy added.
"Hmm… Like an illusion?" Mavis commented from beside them.
"Like an illusion?" Ochaco asked, tilting her head.
"I like this one too." Mavis nodded as the fairy girls suppressed a giggle.
"Something like that, yeah…" Lucy scratched the back of her head.
. . .
"Internships, huh?" Snipe called, seeing Aizawa looking over the internships some of the students had turned in.
"Yeah. A few students have already chosen theirs." Aizawa answered as he shuffled between the papers.
"It's an important time for them." Snipe replied, "Make sure they do it right… Plenty a' third-years around here still regret their picks."
"Of course," Aizawa nodded.
"Is it true you're going to personally train Shinso instead of having the boy do an internship?" Snipe asked.
Aizawa answered, "He needs to catch up. We'll be going over his hero equipment, as well as assessing his overall physical capabilities and skill."
"Leave it to you to be prepared…" Snipe chuckled, "Good luck."
"Thanks," Aizawa mumbled, but a form caught his eye.
Class 1-A Tenya Iida
Desire Internship Agency
First Choice: 'Hosu City, Tokyo. Normal Hero: Manual Agency.'
Second Choice: [Blank]
Third Choice: [Blank]
'Iida only listed one place. That's strange.' Aizawa thought to himself, 'He must have gotten better offers than this one. A hero agency in Hosu. Don't tell me…'
. . .
Izuku rejoined the girls and told them a little about what All Might had told him. "You got a late offer?" Lucy asked.
"Go Deku!" Ochaco cheered, "That's awesome!"
"Yeah, thanks!" He grinned at the girl. "From what I gathered, the guy might be pretty intense."
"Sometimes that's the best way to learn." Mavis said sagely, "Stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to amazing things occasionally."
The fairy girls nodded at their first master, agreeing with her words; after all, this whole other world situation had made them so much stronger.
"Do what you gotta do, Izuku." Levy patted his back, "Ochaco is going to intern with Gunhead, which wasn't exactly her plan with rescue operations."
"Whoa, really Ochao?" Izuku gasped, looking at the girl.
She grabbed her pink umbrella and nodded, "After the Sports Festival and seeing everyone fight so hard… I realized that I should probably learn some proper fight moves, and Gunhead is known for his combat skills."
The other three nodded at her in understanding. She had such a fresh perspective, and it helped them realize that maybe they should strive to obtain new skills too…
. . .
Lucy and Levy were once again in their shared room, with Mavis floating in front of them. They were on their knees apologizing for ignoring her.
"I mean, I can't say I enjoyed it…" Mavis crossed her arms. "But I'm more curious as to why you thought you had to hide my presence."
"Well," Levy started, "Magic isn't as common in this world. Instead, a majority of the population is born with a Quirk."
Mavis nodded, following along.
"And in this world, science is more common than magic." Lucy continued, "We've been masking our magic as Quirks, 'cause we're technically anomalies."
Mavis continued to process the information accordingly. "I see… You fear that if they find out that you're different, they'll perform… experiments on you of some sort." Mavis concluded, she knew firsthand what it was like to have her body used for research… "You've both adapted well, I'm so happy you've had each other."
"That's why you're the first master!" Levy and Lucy exclaimed, impressed by how quickly she pieced it together.
"And about that school," Mavis said, remembering the other classes she passed to get to the girls. "You two enrolled?"
Levy nodded, "Quirks are highly regulated and only those who have a hero license are allowed to use theirs freely."
"On our first day here, we could've been obtained for using our magic if we hadn't lucked out and ended up in a hospital for observation…" Lucy added. "Chiyo Shuzenji, the woman who treated us, a former Pro Hero, took us in and taught us how to fit in."
"Other than becoming younger, our magic becoming more powerful, and a few run-ins with villains, things have mostly been tame. Classes, social lives, and learning how to blend in..." Levy finished, not thinking there was anything too important to add.
Mavis had stars in her eyes as she looked at the girls, "Remarkable! You two are truly exceptional Fairy Tail wizards. Now that you've given me an update, I'll give you both one as well."
"As it turns out, time is dilated between our two worlds, but not by much." Mavis explained, "When I returned to Fairy Tail and explained you two were okay, the guild was relieved to know you two were just completing a job. I remained for a few days to discuss the next course of action, but it seems not much time has passed."
The Fairy Girls gasped, "No, it's only been about a day…"
"Yes, unfortunately, we don't believe there is anything we can do at this moment… We haven't got any leads on where that quest could've come from or who could've done this."
Levy remembered something very important, "The request! When we received it, we had to translate it!"
Lucy's eyes widened as well, "It was in Japanese!"
"Excuse me?" Mavis asked.
"It's the language in this world! We're speaking it right now." Lucy explained.
"We are?" Mavis said, before her quick brain realized something, "If it was written in Japanese, then…"
"It must have come from this world." The three said together.
"But, by who?" Lucy asked.
"And how?" Levy questioned.
Mavis nodded, "Good questions, girls. Very good questions… I think I should tell Makarov this information right away." She was ready to bid them farewell and leave when Lucy stopped her.
"Wait!"
Mavis paused, "Yes, Lucy?"
"How… How's my team?"
Mavis smiled softly at the blonde, "They… were very upset when you disappeared. They tried searching any place you could be and even slept at your apartment for a few days…"
Lucy felt her eyes well up…
"Recently, they were sent a special request by one of the 10 Wizard Saints, Warrod Sequen." Lucy and Levy gasped at the news, "One of the founding members of Fairy Tail, and a very dear friend of mine."
Levy and Lucy's eyes almost bulged out of their heads at the news. Leave it to their first master to have friends in high places.
"They were preparing to leave when I last saw them." Mavis informed, "Is there anyone else you'd like to know about before I leave?"
Lucy shook her head before looking at Levy to see what she'd say. Levy looked down for a moment, "Not– Not yet… I can't know yet." She decided it would be too hard. "Next time…"
The ghost girl nodded, hugging them before letting her body disappear once more.
The girls sat there in silence.
