In the midst of Purgatory, the surroundings felt like a furnace, with flames burning everywhere. Inside, many people were wailing; within the flames, one wouldn't be burned to death, but continuously corroded and refined.
In some areas, there were humanoid creatures with flames burning on their bodies. Upon seeing someone, these creatures would twist their expressions and pounce, clawing and biting, frantically attacking normal creatures.
Each attack would make the people inside scream in agony, though they couldn't move at all.
Luckily, with every injury, their bodies would be quickly replenished by the flames, regrowing again and again. This was the reason they wouldn't die, but it was also why their agony was perpetually magnified.
Some monsters with a hint of consciousness wouldn't use their teeth against these humans. They used various tortures, although the origin of the punishment tools here was unknown; perhaps they crafted them themselves.
