The patient's sudden hematemesis startled Liu Banxia. In past incidences of pellagra, there had been no symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

"Doctor, why... why is she vomiting blood?" the patient's husband asked in panic.

"I'll handle it personally," Wang Huan added.
