The Cadmium Light Green Mercedes-Benz G-Class glided through the silent night, driving through the gates of the villa.
Benjamin Moreland still wore the same clothes as when he left, his steady strides tinged with a barely noticeable urgency.
He went upstairs and pushed open the bedroom door, seeing Grace Adams sleeping on the sofa, his deep stern look softened into tranquility and warmth.
He took off his coat and hung it on the coat rack, first smoothing out the quilt on the bed, then gently lifted Grace Adams from the couch and tucked her into the quilt.
Grace Adams was startled awake.
The bedroom lights were off, but in the glow from outside, she saw Benjamin Moreland's face. Her mind went blank for a moment before she remembered she was in Moreland's villa.
She looked at his gentle face, unable to speak for a moment.
"Did I wake you?" Moreland tucked in her quilt and said, "Go back to sleep."
