"Women are emotional creatures; if you give them enough affection, they will naturally return it with love."
Benjamin Moreland withdrew his gaze and sat in the seat Grace Adams had occupied. "What are you doing here?"
His tone carried a hint of wariness.
"Are you afraid I might say something to her that would upset her?" Evelyn Wilson idly scraped the floating tea leaves from the tea with the cup lid, a slight smile on her lips. "Don't worry, I'm just here to say goodbye to her, and by the way, to tell her I wish you both well."
Benjamin looked at this daughter who hadn't grown up by his side.
"My mother passed all her love for you onto me, and although I don't have such deep father-daughter affection for you, I still hope you will be happy in your later years. She suits you very well." The last 'she' referred to Grace Adams.
After a moment of silence, Evelyn Wilson turned her gaze from the window to look at Benjamin. "Mother hopes for your happiness too."
