Mrs. Li suggested Liu Ya go for two reasons: firstly, in her eyes, Liu Ya was Shi Fengju's "maid and concubine," and secondly, she was a dowry servant of the main wife; perhaps the young master would think of the main wife when he saw her and return to Ningyuan. However, Liu Ya, seeing her master being "bullied" to that extent, was fuming with anger and didn't want to bring Shi Fengju any food.
But she dared not disobey her godmother's orders, reluctantly accepting the food box with discontent. Yet, she called a young servant girl to carry it. Not long after leaving Ningyuan, she stopped and instructed the girl, "I have some urgent matters to attend to, you go deliver the meals to the young master alone! Hand them to Chang Huan, and remember, leave right after you deliver the items without any idle chatter. Understood?"
