Upon hearing Nia Mitchell's words, Maxwell Peary halted his steps.
He lowered his head slightly, looking at little Rabina who was tilting her head up, her cheeks puffed, eyebrows raised, and teeth bared playfully. His own brow furrowed slightly, and he felt a string in his heart go ZING.
"What did you just say?" He was desperate to hear her soft, mellow voice repeat those words; he was all aflutter. It felt as if soft feathers had gently brushed over the tip of his heart.
"I... I..." How could Nia Mitchell possibly repeat that? It was so embarrassing! Who asks someone to repeat something like that?
"I won't say it!" Nia Mitchell looked away, refusing to meet the CEO's gaze.
"You won't say it, hmm?" His voice rose lightly. She suddenly felt a chill creeping up from her feet, and in an instant, her little heart was pounding.
"Fine, I'll say it! I'm very easy to raise." Nia Mitchell raised her voice defiantly, using the volume to hide her nervousness.
