Chapter Five
Sofia Hamilton couldn't sleep all night, tossing and turning, her mind unable to shake the image of his tense expression.
She took out the pill he had given her, stared at it for a long while, yet couldn't tell what was so special about it.
He said it was just for headaches?
Was it really for headaches?
Or was she overthinking?
Sofia felt she must be overthinking; after all, there couldn't be that many devastating illnesses in the world.
The truth was that he no longer wanted to be with her, and she shouldn't stay stuck in the past. She needed to let go of everything, just as he had.
If he could do it, why couldn't she?
Sofia carefully stowed the pill away, lay back down, closed her eyes, and forced herself to clear her mind and think of nothing.
The sky gradually lightened with streaks of dawn, everything in the morning seeming fresh and beautiful, as if hinting at a new beginning.
