"How could they leave without letting me know? This is so unfair!" Ariel groaned, resting her head against Tiasses's desk. Her soft voice trembled slightly, heavy with the quiet ache of being left behind.
"You were asleep when they left," Tiasses replied gently, brushing a stray lock of hair away from Ariel's face. "That's why they couldn't say goodbye."
"How unfortunate," Ariel muttered, her tone flat but laced with sadness.
Tiasses smiled faintly, trying to lift the mood. "You dress so different today—and it looks really good on you!"
She leaned forward with a teasing glint in her eyes. "Now tell me, is it for Horace?"
