Ariel began to laugh at the sight of Horace's expression, her silvery giggle bouncing off the elevator's mirrored walls.
"What are you laughing at?" he asked, half-amused, half-sheepish, his brows drawing together in that familiar way that made him look far too adorable for the fierce Alpha everyone feared.
"Baby, I'm being serious!" he cried out when she refused to stop. His pout only made her laugh harder.
"Hahaha! Of course, I know you're serious, Horace—but you're also being childish," she said through her laughter, clutching her stomach.
For a heartbeat he simply stared at her, lips parted in disbelief. Then, as if the sound of her joy melted away his mock irritation, he began to laugh too—deep, rough, and unguarded.
"Okay, okay," Ariel said, catching her breath, "I promise I won't overdo it again."
