Chapter 4 - The Road to Recovery

The room was all white. A tall door sat in the corner. There is also a window. I can't see through it, though.  There was nothing else.

Someone walked in. Who is she? She looks like those bad people.

"Hello, sweetie. Can you come with me?" she asked me with a smile.

I don't want to. I don't trust her. I shook my head. The smile disappeared. She looked at me with something I can't name. Anger? Maybe. She took my arm and dragged me towards the door. I tried to stop her. She gripped my arm firmer and dragged me out. Along the way, I felt something familiar. I looked over my shoulder. I saw the back of a girl. I wanted to look more closely.

"Hurry up! I don't have all day!" she yelled at me. I flinched away from her. Her grip was firm.

She's yelling. That means she's mad. I'm in trouble. She's going to hurt me. I closed my eyes, waiting for a shock, a hit, but nothing happened. I opened them to see her walking ahead. Maybe she wasn't going to do anything.

We reached where she wanted to take me, dragged me in, threw me in a room, locked the door, and left. I heard her voice saying a lot of mean stuff. Maybe I was still going to get punished. I hope not.

The Healer

The battle had been going on for a while. The closer we went, the more bodies we saw. I saw at least 14 bodies on the ground. They either died by a blade or some magic. Whether they were burned, crushed, or sliced, it was a very gruesome scene. When we got to the location of the battle, it seemed that one side was winning. The ones with magic, people like us.

The younger kids were already scared, sticking closer to the older kids. So we decided to send some of us in to assist with the battle. In hopes of ending the battle sooner. There was no way we could prevent more deaths.

The ones who were chosen were Anthony, Charlie, Ro, Laurel, and 6 others. They went straight into it. There was no reason to sneak around it anymore.

As the group of ten went to help with the battle, we calmed the younger kids. I looked towards the battle, I saw Ro hit someone hard in the head with a big rock. The person's head was crushed, making it looked like it caved in itself. Anthony set someone on fire and threw them aside. They were rolling around attempting to put out the fire. I knew that was useless. Anthony's fire was almost unable to be put out just by rolling on the ground. I saw Laurel get attacked from behind. She was stabbed in the shoulder. She quickly whipped around and started strangling the person, slamming him into the ground. I'm sure he definitely had a concussion, and was most likely not going to be alive. There was blood, i lot of blood. I would've of continued observing, but I felt someone tug at my shirt. I looked down. It was one of the youngest amongst us. It was Mia. A girl about 5 years of age.

"What's wrong Mia?" I asked her.

She pointed at the battle with a frightened look and said, "Scary."

"Oh, dear. Come here, don't look. It will be over soon."

She inched closer and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back and gave her a gentle pat.

...

The battle had ended shortly after. The humans have fled, taking their injured with them and leaving the dead behind. Laurel came back to tell us to wait until one of the ten came to get us. Soon enough, she came back to tell us we could go now.

We all walked into Starfell's town square. There were injured men, women, and even some children. There were also numerous people dead, both human and magical. Everyone was doing their best to heal the ones injured. Some of us including me went to help. While the others went to gather the dead bodies and clean up a bit. Soon it was nighttime. Someone had lit a fire earlier, but we were too busy to notice who. All of us, including the townsfolk of Starfell, settled down for dinner. We shared the food we had gathered before. They shared their fresh supplies and water.

While I was eating, someone from the town came up to me.

"Hello, would you like some water?" she asked, holding out a bottle of water.

I looked up at her hesitantly. Should I take it? What if it hurts me? What if it's poison. What if it's that- I reluctantly took the water. After all, I can't keep her here if she's giving out water. Everyone else must be getting thirsty.

Before dinner, we made sure we got to everyone who was injured and cleared up enough space for us to rest. It felt good to be working with another group. I know this is only the beginning of recovery. There is so much that needs to happen for all the pain and suffering to be undone. Even then, it won't be gone completely. It will always be there, hiding deep inside...
