The year was 2009. This was the second season in beginning of the era of Barcelona and it's coach Pep Guardiola. This was the beginning of the rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This was also the beginning of Jose Mourinho's slow, but definite descent. He would win the Treble with Inter Milan but then go on to have a problems in Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham.
Carlo Ancelotti had moved to Chelsea after leaving AC Milan. Ferguson was still the English Overlord even after losing their star Cristiano Ronaldo.
But our story is not in the Premier League. It's not in the declining Seria-A. It's not in the Bundesliga where Bayern would soon start their ten season winning streak. It's in LaLiga, Spain, more specifically in Canary Islands.
The name of the said team was the newly promoted segunda division side CD Tenerife.
Their new manager Gonzales Laurence, a Spanish man of American descent, was the one who had got them promoted. It was a miracle, for they had not played in LaLiga for five years.
Gonzales had played a major part in promotion of CD Tenerife. Well there was also Nino who was basically carrying the attack.
They had finished second in the Segunda division with 85 points. Nino scored 29 goals. Even if Tenerife was promoted, they didn't have much hopes. They just prayed that they didn't get relegated again. They can only pin their hopes on the coach, the boss, Gonzales Laurence.

Gonzales was worried. What was the budget they had gotten? A meagre 5 million euros? Are you kidding me? Look at the price of Ronaldo's purchase. Look at Guardiola throwing away money. Even Mourinho has more than him! Yes, it was Inter Milan but still.
Gonzales sighed. He had to look for more local talent than he had thought. He wanted to improve the team's defense but how can he do that? He doesn't know the future. He can only learn from the likes of Mourinho and search more local.
As Laurence was thinking about the transfer plans, his friend and Chief of CD Tenerife Juan Hernangomez (not real) entered his office. From Juan's look, it was bad news.
Juan: They want Nino. They want Daniel Kome.
So they basically want his entire attack.
Gonzales: What's the player's stance?
Juan: They don't want to go. They want to stay.
Gonzales smiled. But then his mood hardened. He had to make a tough decision now as the coach.
Gonzales: We have to sell one of our defenders and our left back Rafael Clevaro.
Juan was shocked. He could understand a centre back but why their best left-back?
Before Juan could say anything, the stern look in Gonzales's eyes stopped him. He left the office and went to make preparations.
He could feel a major headache coming.
