Chapter 7 - Going into Primary School

Nearly a year and a half later…

-September 3, 1969-

Gilderoy's POV

Today is the day that I start going to school. I'm pretty excited despite the fact that I am going into kindergarten, it would be a great opportunity for me to make new friends and maybe I could even learn something as I never went to British school.

I am going to Mayflower Primary School, which is one of the best primary schools in the area. My eldest sister, Margaret is already attends a magical school, she would've went to Hogwarts like my mum but for some reason, my mum wanted her to attend Wilkinshire Academy of Magical Studies and Learning.

Which the school is located in some remote place of Canada, it's neither a big nor small school and has a maximum of roughly 750 students attending. The school is mostly well known for producing highly academically skilled students and they specialize in Runes, Enchantments, Herbology, and Potions.

The school encourages their students to be creative, intelligent, and being hardworking. Although this school was started by a few Hogwarts Alumni, it already deviated greatly from Hogwarts since it's inception from 1785. This school has no house and points system. Their school colours are indigo and bronze with a black crow as their mascot.

Their style of uniforms are much less formal as they only wear a white buttoned up shirt, an Indigo coloured tie, and a light grey cardigan. They also wear a tan coloured tweed trousers for the males and a pleated black checkered skirt for the females. They don't provide a formalized wizarding robe attire as they believe that providing them a wizarding robe as part of their uniform would be too expensive. They instead requires the students bring themselves their own robes.

They also don't have a requirement of wearing leather shoes as part of their uniforms, so I have heard that many students wore their own types of shoes. As for why she is attending in that specific magical school in Canada and not anywhere else, well my mum has known a few former classmates in her year that she sometimes send letters to communicate with them and has since then moved away to Canada and worked as staff members of that particular school. Since she knew them, she use an owl to send a letter for a request for an enrolment for Margaret last year, since they communicate back and forth based on school supplies, entrance exam and other requirements when enrolling Margaret. After the all due process and some paperwork that my mum has to fill out on especially for the enrolment process while she is sending a formal rejection letter to Hogwarts, they finally gave my mum an approval letter on Margaret's enrolment.

And yes, my family has an owl though it mostly own by mum as she bought it a couple years back. Let's just say that taking care of it and cleaning it became one of our chores.

For Margaret, it was not that difficult to pass the entrance exam due to her being studious and having sufficient magical powers to easily pass it. I did have a hand in helping as the past year, I help her in memorizing and studying theoretical knowledge that is enough to pass as first year. Especially, when I have enough magical knowledge to cover the first year classes, though only theoretically, which I asked my mum if she has any magical books in her possession and she kindly offer to give her old books to me while also offering some lessons for me and my older sisters.

I think other main reason as to why mum is sending Margaret to another school instead Hogwarts is because she didn't want her to embarrass me by the time I arrive to attend Hogwarts. I think that's the same thing for Sarah as well, for mum is also thinking about what school she would Sarah to quite recently.

My mum has recently started to praise me and compliment me more that she is going over inflate my ego if I were a regular child. So I make sure to politely tell her to tone it down a bit and do it more subtly as I don't want my sisters to become jealous. I honestly thought she would not do that kind of stuff due to my older sisters being magical and not squibs, but it is probably because of their magical potential.

At this current point, I have practice my magic for a while and gradually refining my overall control and efficiency on magic for quite a while to the point that I can sense my sisters's magical potential and based on my observations, they're going to have average level talent and prowess. Keep in mind, they would become more skilled and robust if they worked really hard and could effectively learn if they're determined. And I think my mum can kinda sense their potential too as that's probably the reason why she loves me more as the favourite child for her.

Due to my sister's potential on magic being so average. Starting the past couple years, I willingly started to help them out on maximizing their magic efficiency by providing them a basic calisthenic exercises, do a yoga routine regularly, meditation, and doing some control exercises on their magic use. I told them repeatedly do some some simple spells repeatedly with concentration and focus while also taking account having rest days. And don't forget running, as we did a lot of running mainly on the nearby park.

I hope my efforts will be fruitful for them as I want them to have a sufficient enough power to at least reach above average in skills.

Now, I'm about to go for my first day at the primary school. My dad has started the car and my mum decided to not drive today. I went in the car with my leather book bag and wearing a white polo shirt, a navy blue jumper, a grey trouser, and a pair of black leather shoes along with the school crest on the jumper. After a little bit of driving, I finally arrived at the entrance of the primary, where my parents dropped me off and left. I

went to the reception desk and quickly ask them where is my classroom and one of their staff politely told me the room and quietly lead me to the classroom.

Thankfully, it was before the bell has rung, so I arrived here on time. I quickly found a desk and chair to sit and relax. Moments later, the teacher arrived and did the role call of all the students in her class and asked their names, age, and likes/dislikes. It continued on for about several minutes until my name is called out.

Mrs. Clarke: Now, Gilderoy, may you please introduce yourself?

"My name is Gilderoy R. Lockhart and I am 5 years old. I like reading and I dislike anchovies. Yuck!

Mrs. Clarke: Very good! It's nice that you like reading. I have feeling that you may have known more words for a person your age. It will be interesting to know you better.

"You as well, Mrs. Clarke."

After all of my peers Introduction finished, we began the lesson for today. Today were learning how to count to 10 and doing basic addition and subtraction. Reading time and learning how to read for most of the kids, but since I already knew how to read and considerably more than my peers. I decided to just doodle on some paper, since Mrs. Clarke is unamused with me not following the lesson.

She ask me why I am ignoring her. I told her that I already knew how to read and my reading comprehension is far above my peers. I demonstrated it by reading a whole picture book that I got from the class library out loud with no breaks or stuttering.

Mrs. Clarke was impressed and promptly left alone to draw. Then recess time happened and I went outside to play. I played hopscotch, leapfrog, of course good old football with my classmates and some kids from the other classes, to be honest I haven't that much fun in years. After recess, lunch has started, my lunch is ham and cheese sandwich, a small bottle of apple juice, and a Tupperware filled with carrots and celery. It was a good lunch. 45 minutes later, Lunch has ended and the whole class took a nap, myself included.

After an hour we all woke and it's time to go home, my parents is outside waiting and I exited the entrance and pick me up. I went inside the car and my parents asked me about my day, we went home.
