Although she knew that going to Coopers Manor would be an even greater challenge for her, she gritted her teeth and got in the car anyway.
William Guillen had also drunk quite a bit tonight. As the master of the house, he accepted all the toasts offered to him by the guests. Even she could not be spared. Although he blocked many drinks for her, she still inevitably drank a fair amount.
William Guillen leaned back against the chair back, raising his hand to unbutton two more shirt buttons. Turning his head, he asked in a low voice, "Can I open the window?"
"As you wish."
William Guillen lowered the car window, letting the cool wind blow in. The breeze began to clear his slightly tipsy head, bringing a touch of clarity to his eyes.
On the way back to Coopers Manor, neither she nor William Guillen spoke; the car compartment was silent.
