Chapter 506.
Soul Saint, in the world of Soul Masters, is considered a high class soul master. Within the Soul Hall, a Soul Saint is usually also a cardinal of the main Soul Hall, although this is not the case everywhere. Most Soul Saints are generally found in various academies, families, and empires. It's rare to see one casually walking down the street.
Generally, Soul Saints emit certain fluctuations of soul power, and they also carry a distinct aura. Soul Masters of middle to high ranks develop an aura that is evident to those who are familiar with it. It's clear at a glance that they are not ordinary people.
How could someone who looks like an average sailor be a Soul Saint? However, after hearing the Lord White Pontiff's words, Hu Liena and the others dared not doubt. They guessed that this man must have some means of concealing his presence to avoid being detected.
Lao Shan turned around and glanced at Wang Feng, his expression unchanged, and smiled, saying, "This distinguished –guest... –has good eyesight."
The implication was clear, he was directly admitting it.
Seeing this, the three of Hu Liena couldn't help but look at Lao Shan in surprise.
In the Soul Hall, Soul Saints are highly valued, even though there are many of them. It was unexpected for a Soul Saint to be working as a mere boatman. After all, the boat was really not that big and didn't resemble an ordinary sea-going vessel. It could only accommodate about ten people at most, –and it had only two floors. It didn't look very sturdy, either. When the three stepped on the deck, the metal creaked beneath their feet, making them wonder if the boat might capsize with just one wave.
"My boat isn't suitable for long voyages," Lao Shan said, looking at the three of them with a puzzled expression. After pulling in the anchor, the ship made a low noise, as though something was being activated. The stern of the boat lifted, sending waves crashing, and it slowly began sailing out of the port.
"I'm just a middleman," Lao Shan continued with a smile. "I'm responsible for getting you to the destination of Purple Pearl. Looking at the three of you, it seems like you might be headed to some unordinary island. Is it the Sea God Island?"
The three of them were startled.
"How can you tell?" Xie Yue asked, surprised.
"Why wouldn't I be able to?" Lao Shan shook his head and said, "I've lived in this vast sea city for decades. I can tell exactly where people want to go by just looking at them. You're all foreign land Soul Masters, and most foreign land Soul Masters who come to the sea are here for business, a few for exploration, and very rare few are headed to Sea God Island."
"If the first two knew it was the Sea Festival now, they definitely wouldn't be so eager to set sail. Only a land Soul Master heading to Sea God Island would be so desperate and unafraid of the Sea Festival. Those who dare to –go to Sea God Island must be confident in their own strength, so naturally, they wouldn't fear the Sea Festival."
Upon hearing Lao Shan's explanation, the three of them exchanged glances. They hadn't expected such an ordinary-looking Soul Saint to be so knowledgeable. But then, considering he had been in this area for decades, it made sense that he would understand everything about the people who came and went.
Wang Feng smiled, his expression calm.
"Sea God Island... it's not a simple place."
With a long sigh, Lao Shan focused on steering the helm without saying anything more.
Wang Feng sensed something. The boat seemed to be fragile, but in reality, it had been specially modified. It didn't require a sailor to operate it. There was likely a Soul Tool at the bottom, which allowed it to move at a surprisingly fast and stable pace.
Since they had set off early in the morning, the three of them could now see the vast sea stretching out before them. It was entirely different from what they had seen in the sky earlier.
The waves of the sea were magnificent, contrasting with the clear blue sky. As the three stood on the bow, surrounded by the endless expanse of water, they felt an overwhelming sense of isolation and insignificance.
But over time, they began to adjust to the vastness around them.
As the boat continued forward, however, the expressions of the three began to change. Though the ship was stable, they could still feel the gentle rocking. None of them had been on a boat before, and the constant motion made it difficult for them to keep their balance. Initially, they used their soul power to resist the effects, but eventually, one of them couldn't help but feel nauseous and pale.
The Soul Hall had never considered such things. In fact, none of the Soul Hall's people would ever go to sea in their life, so it was impossible for them to know how to handle seasickness.
Wang Feng stood firm against the wind, unfazed by the motion of the boat.
"Hahaha, eat some sour fruit," Lao Shan said, noticing the discomfort of the three. He pulled out some sour fruits and handed them over. "These will help. I can tell this is your first time at sea. You'll get used to it."
The sour fruits resembled plums or citrus fruits and were known to relieve seasickness.
Despite Lao Shan's offer, the three didn't eat them, relying –on their luck and soul power to resist the sickness instead.
Lao Shan didn't mind. He knew they were cautious and suspicious.
"I'll eat them," Wang Feng said, taking the sour fruits from Lao Shan. He ate two, briefly missing his past life.
Having lived in the Douluo world for twenty years, Wang Feng had adapted to most things, but there were still moments when things reminded him of his past life.
"Does the distinguished guest miss his homeland?" Lao Shan suddenly asked, glancing at Wang Feng.
"Yes," Wang Feng answered without surprise. Lao Shan, being a perceptive person, could easily guess such things.
Lao Shan smiled, a little surprised by Wang Feng's openness. "Since you're heading to Sea God Island, let me share a bit more. Going there isn't simple."
"First, there are powerful sea soul beast guardians around Sea God Island, making it difficult for outsiders to approach. Among these sea soul beasts, there are beings that are over 100,000 years old. If I were you, I'd suggest turning back."
At this, Hu Liena and the others were immediately alarmed.
"A hundred thousand-year-old soul beast guards the Sea God Island?" Wang Feng's interest was piqued.
"What's its name?"
"Devil Soul Great White Shark," Lao Shan answered. "It's a powerful sea soul beast that guards Sea God Island."
Wang Feng nodded slightly. A 100,000-year-old soul beast was certainly not something to take lightly.
"Is there really such a powerful sea soul beast?" Xie Yue asked, his scalp tingling. "If it was just one, that would be one thing, but if it's a group... then that's a real problem."
If it were just a single 100,000-year-old soul beast, they could handle it with the Lord White Pontiff's strength. But if there were many of them, it would be a different story, and still, they'd be in the middle of the sea…
"Secondly..." Lao Shan pointed ahead. "I don't know the exact location of Sea God Island, but if you're heading there, you'll have to pass through the territories of many sea soul beasts. And don't forget, it's the Sea Festival. When they see humans intruding on their territory, they'll attack immediately. Some experienced sailors can avoid part of the territory of the sea soul beasts, but no matter what, they'll still get caught."
"Once attacked by those sea soul beasts, there's almost no chance of survival. This is the most dangerous situation at sea. Now that it's the Sea Festival, many sea soul beasts have surfaced. While it's possible to predict this in advance, it also means you can't avoid them entirely because their territory is so vast. The originally safe routes will be occupied."
"If you want to go to Sea God Island, you'll inevitably pass through the territories of these sea soul beasts. The Purple Pearl Pirates are located on a small island and have special routes, but they are still just as dangerous."
The group listened attentively.
Lao Shan then proceeded to explain some of the more powerful sea soul beast territories to Wang Feng and the others. After hearing him, Wang Feng suddenly thought of Coddley Kun. If he called Coddley Kun out, these pesky sea soul beasts would retreat without hesitation!
"Lao Shan, before I came, I overheard a middle-aged sailor say that the some Sea Soul Master seems to have killed a sea soul beast because of a sea soul master. Do both the sea soul master and the sea soul beast have names?" Wang Feng asked.
This question made Hu Liena feel more familiar and trusting toward Wang Feng.
"Hahaha..." Lao Shan chuckled.
"Those are just made-up legends. That guy doesn't understand his own strength. Let me tell you, the reason for the Sea Festival is because there's a powerful being in the depths of the sea. Every year, during –this time, the soul beasts of the sea begin to stir, causing many sea soul beasts to surface. This is done to avoid provoking the overlord of the sea."
"But if we're being honest, there were indeed stories from back then. However, in the end, the sea overlord wasn't killed, and the sea soul master died. Even a Titled Douluo-level powerhouse would be no match for this overlord soul beast at sea."
Upon hearing this, the three of Hu Liena were shocked. Wang Feng, however, smiled, not surprised at all by Lao Shan's words.
Afterward, the group listened as Lao Shan continued to tell them about various things at sea, which was an eye-opening experience. They also learned that the overlord of the sea was called the Deep Sea Demon Whale!
Wang Feng had heard of this sea soul beast before. Even though he hadn't read the –original story completely, he knew about it because it was so famous. It was a soul beast that was approaching a million years old.
If judged solely by cultivation age, a soul beast that had just reached 100,000 years was roughly equivalent to a Titled Douluo, right?
And a million-year-old soul beast would be very close to level 100, nearly a god-like existence.
However, combat effectiveness varied greatly. If he were to face a soul beast of that level, Wang Feng thought his only option would be to escape. Even a Peerless Titled Douluo of level 99 would likely face great difficulty if they encountered such a powerful soul beast at sea.
As the conversation continued, night gradually fell, and the first day passed without incident.
By the next day, Wang Feng saw many sea soul beasts, mostly small ones floating on the surface. Lao Shan seemed very experienced, carefully navigating the boat to avoid many of the sea soul beasts' territories. Even after three or four days, they still hadn't reached their destination.
This journey was quite long. Even if Wang Feng were to carry the three of them on his flying sword, it would be impossible to cover such a distance in such a short time.
"Hey, isn't that old man Haider's ship? I didn't expect him to go to sea too?" Lao Shan suddenly said, noticing a distant ship.
Wang Feng looked over and saw a much larger ship, at least three times the size of their own. With his sharp eyesight, he could still make out some people on board. They seemed familiar.
"Do you know that ship?" Wang Feng asked.
"That's Haider's," Lao Shan replied, shaking his head.
"He's not like me. I'm just a middleman, but Haider is a –real pirate. He hijacks mainland soul masters and, depending on the situation, it seems that the people on that ship, like you, are likely heading to Sea God Island. Otherwise, they wouldn't be going to sea."
"But it seems something's wrong with them..." Lao Shan said, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the ship.
"Haider seems to have gone crazy. He's heading to a very dangerous place."
"What's wrong? Where are they going?" Wang Feng asked, a frown forming on his face. Was this part of the original plot?
"Didn't I tell you about the overlord of the sea before?" Lao Shan continued, scanning the surroundings before speaking.
"Haider is heading to the core territory of the sea overlord. Going to that area will definitely provoke the overlord of the sea, and it's a suicidal thought to even wonder there."
Wang Feng's eyes flashed.
Could it be that this was the original plot? Would they come into contact with the Deep Sea Demon Whale so soon?
Can they survive this?
Wang Feng couldn't help but think that soul beasts close to a million years old could probably kill them with a single sneeze, right?
Even if Xiaosan and the others can work together to resist a Titled Douluo, in the sea, they would have no chance against the Deep Sea Demon Whale.
Thinking about this, Wang Feng's heart skipped a beat.
"Oh, interesting."
Wang Feng pondered for a moment and then said, "I'll go take a look. This place isn't close to Purple Pearl Island, right?"
"It's not close, we'll be there in about two or three hours." Lao Shan looked at Wang Feng intently.
"Guest, I advise you to reconsider. An overlord like that one in the sea, once someone approaches, it's impossible he would let them leave."
Wang Feng remained silent.
At that moment, Hu Liena approached and quickly said, "Teacher, we don't need to worry about this, right?"
But Wang Feng replied calmly, "I'm a bit curious about this sea overlord. You go on ahead to Purple Pearl Island first. If something happens, I'll send a signal, and I'll appear right away. If you're already out here, it would be a big regret if we don't see this overlord of the sea."
Upon hearing this, the three of them stopped talking. Lord White Pontiff's personality was like that—aloof and proud. Indeed, he was unafraid. He must have heard Lao Shan talk about the sea overlord's situation a few days ago, and perhaps he wanted to see it for himself. But to protect them, he stayed behind.
Thinking of this, Hu Liena whispered, "Teacher, then you be careful."
Wang Feng waved his hand, released the burden on them, and transformed into a sword that stretched toward the sky before flying off.
Watching this, Lao Shan couldn't help but be impressed. A gleam of light flashed in his eyes as he murmured, "Your teacher doesn't seem like an ordinary person. I heard there's a Sword Douluo in the mainland, and his sword soul is the Seven Kills Sword, famous across the continent. Could your teacher be the famous Sword Douluo? But listening to his voice, he seems quite young."
Upon hearing this, the three of them all snorted coldly at once.
