When Aldana Candi woke up, Philip Shaw was already gone.
She wasn't sleeping under the shade of a tree. At some unknown time, he had set up a tent, and she was sleeping inside it.
She crawled out of the tent and surveyed her surroundings.
The sky was dim, it seemed to be dusk already. Under the sunset, the grass on the ground was coated with a gentle layer of golden light.
She had camped in the mountains with Eric Candi before, but the atmosphere was different from this relaxed outing now. She sat by the tent, hugging her legs, looking up at birds returning to their nests overhead.
Philip Shaw's horse and hunting rifle were gone, it seemed he had gone out hunting again.
The sky dimmed bit by bit, and the surrounding chirping of birds gradually quieted. Not knowing when Philip Shaw would return, Aldana decided to wait for him back in the tent.
