"If you meet someone you can't beat and can't escape from, then the only hope is that he never comes looking for you."
He heard this and lowered his gaze, chuckling softly. The laughter stirred in his light-colored eyes but never reached the bottom.
They were so close, yet talking about such distant topics. Every night, doing things only the closest lovers would do, but it didn't mean anything.
Aldana Candi kept looking at him until Philip Shaw slowly restrained his smile. His gaze was indifferent, and one hand gently brushed over her cheek, seemingly scanning the subtle expressions on her face.
"I'm afraid I can't promise you anything right now," he said softly, "So far, I haven't had the thought of letting you go. You might think it's because of your face...but that's probably not the case. If you insist on having me explain, I also can't explain clearly. I can only say you're unlucky to encounter someone like me."
