Energy Blade Scale Monster
So awesome! It was fast and could deflect attacks, but I couldn' t do anything to them and got pummeled badly.
Now, I' ve become fully armed, with a voice in my head guiding me on how to use my body.
So cool, haha!
I forced it to slam its sword into the ground while kicking its chest with full force.
BOOM!
The earth dome collapsed in an instant. When the annoying prey' s hand slipped from the sword, I struck its body with full power, sending it flying out of sight.
I stood my ground, unshaken. The only change was the blade scales on my body shifting from dull black to orange.
The voice in my head told me I could store energy up to a maximum of deep red.
The color indicates the amount of stored energy, progressing from dull black, pale white, white, bright white, pale yellow, yellow, bright yellow, pale orange, orange, bright orange, pale red, red, to deep red.
This sword is way too dangerous in the hands of prey, hehe.
I charged toward the vile mid-tier prey that kept everyone from getting hurt.
The prey unleashed everything at me nonstop. This time, their magic didn' t deflect but was absorbed into the blade scales around my body.
Arrows or thrown weapons lost their impact upon hitting the blade scales and fell to the ground.
The energy in my blade scales kept rising until they started glowing bright orange.
I ran until I was in range, then leaped into the air.
The vile mid-tier prey summoned an earth dome to cover itself, while other prey raised shields to protect it.
I swung my sword at them with all my might.
BOOM!
They scattered in all directions.
I raised my sword again to strike the earth dome directly.
BOOM!
I struck again.
BOOM!
Even though it quickly rebuilt the dome, I struck again.
BOOM!
And again.
BOOM!
Finally, the dome collapsed. The vile prey stood dazed, on the verge of falling.
It pointed its sword at me, and I slashed back.
The ground rose into a wall, and another explosion rang out.
The wall crumbled along with the vile prey, which rolled far away.
My energy blade scales absorbed the attacks, now glowing pale red.
The prey swarmed to stop me from reaching the vile one.
I simply slammed my sword into the ground, and they were blown away in all directions.
I charged at them, swinging my sword upward at the shield-bearing prey lined up in five rows to protect it.
The impact sent them flying into the air.
"You damn fish!"
It swung its sword at my face, and the ground rose to attack me.
I rushed forward, grabbed its leg, slammed it into its own earth, and slashed again with my sword.
BOOM!
Its body sank into the collapsing ground it had raised, rolling several times.
I leaped up and swung my sword at it again.
BOOM!
But another prey rushed in, raising an energy shield just in time.
I struck again, shattering the energy shield.
I snatched its shield and hurled it at the face of another mid-tier prey casting a barrier spell.
The shield smashed into its face, knocking it backward. The barrier it was forming dissipated.
I swung my fist, knocking away the prey still standing in my way.
"Stop it quick! I can' t hold the skill much longer!"
All the prey rushed to attack me. Even though the vile prey tried to roll away, my sword was already slashing down.
"You damn fish!"
BOOM!
The mid-tier vile prey sank into the cratered ground.
The attacks from all around made my energy blade scales turn deep red.
I released all the stored energy in my blade scales outward.
The scales on my body returned to their dull state.
The energy shot out as deep red blades.
Since it was pure energy, it couldn' t be blocked or deflected.
Whatever the energy blades passed through was instantly scorched and hollowed out.
Low-grade shields and armor were pierced through entirely.
The prey around me fell like dominoes, even those flying in the sky were shot down, dead on the ground.
The energy blades pierced through over a dozen prey before losing power.
All around me were prey ready to be devoured, the smell of burnt flesh making my mouth water. The survivors were so terrified of me they couldn' t move.
Feels so good.
I' ve become strong.
At that moment, a deafening roar echoed across the battlefield, making everyone turn to look.
The sound came from where my former friend, the boss, and her former minions were fighting that high-tier prey.
The outcome was clear in no time.
My former friend' s side was utterly crushed. Her elite minions died in droves, unable to do anything to the high-tier prey.
The former friend boss was pinned to the ground, her head stomped. No matter how she clawed or attacked, it was futile.
Her flailing arms must have annoyed the high-tier prey, as it broke them, rendering them useless.
My instincts screamed not to get close.
I' m still not strong enough.
Fear reminded me of the trash prey the high-tier one had thrown my way.
I have to eat.
No.
I need to eat. My instincts told me if I didn' t eat that trash prey, the high-tier one would surely kill me.
While I was thinking, under the command of a new prey, countless spells bombarded the ready-to-eat prey around me, turning them into mush.
To prevent me from eating easily, they tried to avoid hitting me directly.
So I charged straight at them.
"Don' t be afraid! It can' t attack from a distance right now!"
The new batch of prey surrounded me with walls of shields and spears, backed by a ton of close-combat fighters.
Foolish prey, never learning or evolving, hehe.
I leaped and swung my sword, but it didn' t reach, blocked by a wall of wind that pushed me back.
Before my feet touched the ground, countless gusts blew me back further.
The vile prey had been whisked away by its allies. I should' ve eaten its head first.
They gathered wind-magic prey to surround me from all sides, as if this team was formed specifically to stop me.
I couldn' t break through any side. My energy scales didn' t charge since the wind only pushed, not dealing damage.
But they couldn' t attack me either. What a pointless effort.
My senses were sharp enough to detect danger. I could tell there was only one real threat nearby.
But it was focused on toying with my former friend boss, ignoring everything else.
I grew tired of waiting and slashed my sword at myself to charge my energy scales until they glowed orange.
Then I fired.
They countered by raising a thick earth wall covered with a barrier.
The blades broke through the barrier but dissipated at the edge of the earth wall. The stray bits were too weak to pierce their shields.
I tried again, and they defended the same way.
Hehe, if I keep this up, their energy will run out eventually.
Such pathetic thinking, fitting for mere prey.
"Lord Volcan is ready! Don' t let it escape!"
"Ooooh!"
They cheered with all their might.
Just another prey. My senses didn' t detect any other threats.
RUMBLE!
Then my senses screamed a warning from above.
Looking up, I saw a massive flaming boulder, as big as the one used against my former friend boss.
*****
Volcan' s Side
Volcan no longer fought on the front lines. He had retreated to the rear to recover energy and wait to strike where needed.
The knights reported a mutated monster on the battlefield and requested his destructive power to eliminate it.
Once its position was locked, the coordinates were sent. Volcan unleashed his skill directly.
One shot, two birds—he took out both the fish monster and the carrier slime monster in one go.
The carrier slime would' ve died soon anyway from constant small attacks.
*****
No wonder they destroyed the prey into inedible mush to stop me from evolving to counter this flaming boulder.
They used wind magic to trap me, preventing my escape.
My instincts screamed as if my heart would burst. They told me I couldn' t withstand this attack.
As they retreated, I tried to escape in every direction, but the wind magic kept pushing me back.
With no options left, I stabbed my sword' s hilt into the ground, turned my back to the blade, and looked up.
My four tails touched the blade' s tip, drawing energy into my body nonstop. My blade scales turned red, on the verge of bursting.
I pulled all the energy to my mouth and fired.
A single energy bullet did nothing to the massive flaming boulder.
But what if I kept firing energy bullets nonstop?
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
Even as several brave prey rushed to stop me, it was too late.
The massive flaming boulder began to crack and shatter.
I yanked my sword from the ground and hurled it into the center of the cracks.
BOOOOOOM!
The sky flared with blinding flames, the heatwave scorching my skin and blasting me backward.
Burning rock fragments, large and small, rained down, killing everything indiscriminately like a carpet bombing.
