Artemia wrapped her arms around around me. "Anyway, our guests should be arriving soon. We should greet them. I'll try to talk to Eileen to see if I can detect any signs she is the traitor that demon spoke about."
"You would do that?" I asked. "I mean, you both have bad blood."
She nodded and stepped back, slowly letting go of me. "If it would bring you solace, I will. Even if I have to bite my tongue to do so."
Her determination warmed my heart, even as I felt a twinge of anxiety about the impending arrival of our guests. I couldn't deny the tension that had built up between Artemia and Eileen over the years, but I also knew that if anyone could navigate that delicate situation, it was her.
"Thank you, Artemia. It means a lot to me," I said softly, taking her hands in mine. "I know it's not easy for you."
