"I'm here doing my job, Doctor Merrill," the officer said. "This is unlicensed trade of bioactive substances."
Merrill's brow lifted, not in offense, but in mild, almost academic curiosity.
"Bioactive substances?" he repeated softly.
He extended an open palm toward the table, not snatching, not demanding. When Officer Brant hesitated, Merrill simply took one of the remaining Pathfinder pills himself. He broke it cleanly between his fingers.
Dried herb.
Honey binder.
Nothing more.
He inhaled, touched a single grain to his tongue, then gave a small, thoughtful nod.
"This is a composite of whole plants. Prepared without solvents, distillation, or chemical extraction. No synthesis. No structural alteration. Nothing that falls under controlled pharmaceutics," Doctor Merrill said calmly.
He glanced at the officer.
