Chapter 71 - Silent and Quiet

Dante teased Calvin, "Looks like you're in for a fight. Be careful not to get knocked out too early."

Calvin snorted, "Ha ha, very funny." Before he too left the monitoring room.

...

Inside an apartment-style building, the villain team, Iida and Sero, had just heard the loud beep that signified the start of the match, but they did not immediately rush into action; they stood together to create a battle plan.

"What do you think we should do, Lida? Should we go after them?"

Lida thought for a moment and replied, "While my quirk [Engine] is great for pursuit, and I would like a rematch with Calivn after he beat me in the 500m dash, but now is not the time for grievances. We have the advantage; we cannot waste it.

Rather, we should fortify our environment to make it inoperable for the hero team."

"That's a smart idea, Iida. I could use quirk [Tape] to booby-trap the place to limit their movements."

"Yes, let's do that, it may limit me too, but not as much as the heroes. HAHAHA, YES WE WILL SUCCEED WITH OUR VILLAINY"

At training ground Beta, Calvin and Jirou now stood in the open, facing the massive apartment building where the villains waited.

Kyouka Jirou's hero costume was similar to the everyday clothes of your average goth. She wore a red top underneath a black cropped jacket and black jeans. Her only accessories were headphones on her head and large black boots with modified speakers attached to the shin.

Until now, no words had been exchanged between the two. The only form of communication they had was when they met and greeted each other with a nod. Calvin had noticed that she looked like an average human teen with the only anomaly being that she had elongated earlobes; they were about 10 centimetres in length and each had a headphone jack protruding at its end, which he assumed had to do with her quirk.

Unprompted, Kyouka Jirou quietly walked up to the building and brought her ear close. Calvin stood back and watched curiously. Suddenly, Jirou's elongated earlobe grew longer, swimming close to the wall of the building before plugging the ear jack at its tip into the wall. Jirou then listened.

Moments later, she pulled out her earjack as her earlobes shrank to their original size. She turned to Calvin, "They're on the fifth floor. I didn't hear any other movement. I think they are guarding the bomb."

Calvin studied her for a moment, then stared up at the building, running his eyes along its exterior before returning to her and asking, "Sound manipulation quirk?"

His seemingly random question took her aback, but Jirou hesitantly answered, "s…sort of."

"Can you make long-range attacks?" Calvin probed further.

Again, Jirou answered, "Yeah." However, this time she asked the reason behind all his questions. "What's with the random questioning?"

"It's nothing, I just thought your quirk could help us secure the win."

"Really? What are you thinking?" She asked.

"Let's head up first, I'll tell you on our way up." He said, inviting her to join him inside the apartment building.

Inside the building, they cautiously made their way to the fifth floor in complete silence, aside from when Calvin took the time to explain his plan to Jirou.

Finally, they reached the fifth floor and moved closer to where the villains were presumed to be waiting, careful not to alert them. They managed to silently position themselves in a room right next to the villains.

It was now time for the next phase of their plan. Standing directly behind the wall separating them from the villains, Calvin said to Jirou, "This place is good enough. Now you get in position, and remember... do not enter the room."

"Yeah, I understand... but are you sure you will be alright on your own?" Jirou asked, a little concerned.

"Yes, I should be fine. Don't worry." Calvin assured.

"Okay, if you say so." She turned to leave.

Watching Jirou leave, he gave one final reminder, "Remember not to enter the room." She hummed back.

'It seems simple enough, I distract, he attacks. This way, we don't have to deal with their quirks. I hope it all goes well.' She thought.

Jirou quietly exited the room, then hugged the wall closely as she cautiously approached the entrance to the villain's hideout. After reaching the hollowed out doorway, Jirou paused to take a deep breath for a boost in confidence, 'Alright, let's do this.' She stepped out into the doorway in plain view of the villains. Gaining their attention, albeit a bit confused, yet suspicious of her actions.

Watching them but disregarding their suspicion, she radioed her partner,

-buzzz- "I'm in position."-buzzz-

-buzz-"Copy."-buzzz- He radioed back.

Before the start of the match, each team is given earpieces to communicate with teammates over long distances.

She had just fully observed the room and noticed a difference that could affect their plans, -buzzz- "Wait… Something's wrong. The floor… It's covered in tape! They've booby-trapped the entire room with Sero's quirk." -buzz- she quickly alerted.

Sero was an individual on the opposing team whose quirk [Tape] allows him to produce long strips of tape from his elbows to bind enemies, swing along buildings, and launch attacks.
