No one spoke—or more accurately, no one was able to speak—after Amden's declaration fell like a sharp blade upon the room.
"What do you even mean?" It was Rubucus who was the first to respond and he almost shouted, his voice laced with disbelief and frustration.
He was clearly agitated. He was someone who had always avoided conflict and had avoided to choose any side in the conflict that had been simmering. But now, neutrality was to be forcibly stripped from him and what remained was a single, suffocating choice: submission. And Amden even had a method to ensure his loyalty.
"Did I not make myself clear?" Amden replied, raising a brow, his voice calm but chilly. "You all… will submit to me."
"Do you even hear yourself?" Narin Clove shouted, rising abruptly from his seat. His fear had been momentarily replaced by a surge of courage.
"We will never submit to you. This is preposterous!"
