Chapter 42: Home Is Where You Are
Three months had passed, though Tiania often forgot to count them.
The wheelchair had become a memory, tucked away in the back of the garage, beneath a dusty tarp and beside boxes of Henessa’s old school projects. Her legs no longer trembled when she walked. Her steps were sure, graceful, steady. She’d stopped seeing the physical therapist two weeks ago. Her final visit to the doctor ended with a grin and a hug, the physician calling her recovery one of the most remarkable he’d ever witnessed.
But what mattered most wasn’t that she walked. It was that she danced again, freely, barefoot in the living room with Henessa giggling beside her, or with Henrick in the kitchen when an old jazz tune hummed from the radio. It was in the way she moved through the house, like it belonged to her again. Like she had re-inherited her own life.
