Chapter 478 - Chapter 478: Mother's Wrath

A waft.

A stench.

A gust that began to blow from the ruined landscape.

Harvard and Criollo paused themselves when they saw such a gas, floating idly by as if there was a fire. Inhaling it did nothing, save for a small cough to get it out of their lungs, and the source doesn't seem to be anywhere notable from the now devastated restaurant. Rather, when looking to their sides, they could see her hands beginning to emit it. Before they were able to react, a mass of smoke blasted out, covering their sight, forcing Harvard to stumble back, whilst Criollo tried to scale up from the destroyed toys. "Built-in Smokescreen. In case her main source of magic would be cut off. HARVARD-"

THWACK!!

An immediate tail swipe across his body, launching him outside of the Restaurant. He gave away his position, his voice exposed him at the worst time. Meanwhile, Harvard would try to turn to the sound, only to be met with the pair of glossy eyes.

SHIKK!!!

Skewered through his head. Her stubs adapted and woven themselves into small knives, as she cuts the boy down and disembowels him. Rather than take such a wound, Harvard would adapt around it, his entrails wrapped and tied into a knot in order to pull her in and land a heavy hook, followed by a scale up from her arms and pulling his gored body to force the Beldam to stab into her own eye, letting it shatter once again. The new Gorgon followed the noise as well, watching from the dense fog the two scuffling, as it would try to lunge its many heads again. The Beldam, in her dismay, would bow her head and force Harvard to take the abuse across his back, ripping his intestine in half by the knot, flying off just as far, as the Witch took aim to try and take down the new Fusion.

SHIKK!!!! SHIKK!!!!

Four stabs, right where she was biting into the beast. While her teeth may have been damaged, the hide still had proper dents within the body. Small, sharp objects wouldn't be as useful due to such protection. When in contact with proper blades, such dents become a liability, as she'd be quick in reaching deep inside and attempting to tear her from within. Venomous black blood began to spill out, a scream of pain echoing across, making the area collapse further. To prevent it from screaming so loudly, The Beldam would try and bite into the many heads that make up such a mouth, tearing them by the neck and snuffing them out one by one. Harvard was quick on hearing the sounds and rushing back inside, right as Zazel was getting the upper hand against Brunono. A Spell was casted to bind the Witch, timing it as she tried to pull away and go for another shank, a seal that wraps around the blade and prevents it from approaching further. Taking advantage of the interruption, the new Gorgon would try to wrap around the Beldam's body once again, though now in gripping the ground and slamming her into the destroyed floor, parting the smoke clouds with each strike, letting the Card Magician get a better visual. Unfortunately, it would only result in the hands creating more smoke as a replacement, clouding the two's scuffle even when Harvard was directly in front of them.

He would be able to look down and see the mass of blood spilled out, trailing it, as well as hearing any sounds that would indicate they were close by. It wasn't until he'd see the ruined body, laying limp, struggling to breathe properly, actively groaning a warning for the Beldam's next attack. Harvard would tune his ears to track after the Witch, hearing her heavy stomps. Clattered terrain makes it easier to follow, with the floorboard's creeks and snaps acting as a direct sound. Slowly, however, such sounds remained mute. Silence. He'd keep his hand up as he'd tune his ears further, letting him hear easier. She was going quiet for a reason. She doesn't want to be tracked and struck by another spell. She was getting wiser in how to approach the Card Magician. He could feel her coming closer, but with the amount of smoke and smog, it was hard to truly know where she was coming from.

Then, a flicker.

A glimpse of light. Harvard turned his head to the direction, a spell casted, as the beast lunged out. A visceral memory for the boy. A stunt pulled by another monster when he was younger. He could hear the growls of the creature buried deep in his mind, the shakes and rumbles of shrubbery as it tried to sneak in a meal. Before, he remained oblivious. He merely raised his tiny hands up high and wanted to hug the beast, unaware that it was his meal. One swift strike from his mother was enough to let him know its intentions. His father was quick in carrying him away, as the boy cried, worried about his mother. His worries subsided, however, when he'd see the mom come back, now with the head of the beast in her arms, putting it in a place for safe keeping, so that it can be mounted upon their wall as a treasure. He somewhat remembered how she did it, as well, or at least as much as what he saw.

He regenerated from his wound as he'd buck his feet down, before palming the beast, with Harvard catching one of the Beldam's jaws instead. From there, he'd pull her to the side, before going on top of her and wrapping his arms around her neck. It only took a strong pull to rip that head off of her shoulders, with Harvard's efforts somewhat rewarded, tearing half of her neck away, leaving it to dangle as she'd repel, grabbing ahold of the new Gorgon, dragging her away, spearing the many serpents around her to wrap around and act as bandages.

It was here, when the Beldam retreated, that he remembered why he was so scared of her.
