Chapter 142 - Chapter 142 : The Inheritance

Kamino's ruins are quieter now.

Ash still clings to the windowsills.

The smoke has faded.

The people have gone home.

But the crater remains.

And so does the memory of him.

---

Kana walks alone.

Bandages wrap her side. Her arm is in a sling.

But she walks. Slowly. Gritting her teeth with every step.

She carries nothing but a backpack—and his goggles.

They dangle from her fingers like they might fall apart if she holds them too tightly.

---

The sky is bruised purple.

The storefronts along the edge of the blast zone are half-collapsed.

One of them—

The little corner shop he used to stop by after patrol—

Still has a crooked sign hanging:

"Helmet Guy Discount Days."

It hasn't been taken down.

Kana doesn't stop.

She walks all the way to the spot where he fell.

There's no stone marker yet.

Just flowers.

Drawings.

Letters sealed in plastic.

Bike helmets stacked like offerings.

She kneels, lowering herself slowly, then sits cross-legged in front of it all.

She sets the goggles in her lap.

---

Flashback – Months Earlier

Kana sits outside the Minato Base, elbows on knees, scowling.

Satoru appears beside her, like always.

"Wanna talk?"

"No."

"Cool. Let's not talk then."

They sit in silence.

After a long pause, he says:

"Y'know… I'm not trying to fix you, Kana."

"Good. 'Cause I'm not broken."

"Didn't say you were. But I'll stand next to you until you're ready to punch through whatever's in front of you."

She doesn't reply.

But she doesn't leave either.

---

Back in the Present

Kana looks down at the goggles.

She runs her fingers along the cracked lenses.

"You stood for all of us…"

"Even when it broke you."

"Even when no one thought you should."

---

The wind shifts.

A few petals fall from the sky—late spring blossoms caught in the breeze.

Kana wipes her eyes, slowly.

She takes the goggles, holds them to her chest—

—then ties them around her neck.

They hang crookedly, awkwardly.

But they're hers now.

Not just a reminder.

A promise.

POV Montage

Keiko, watching from afar, smiles through her tears.

"He'd be proud of her."

Sayaka, cleaning up the hospital wing, finds an old message on her phone from Satoru:

"Still standing. Don't worry."

Miyako, watering her new flowers, places a small sign in the window:

"In Bloom, Because He Stood."

All Might, hidden from cameras, whispers under his breath:

"Go beyond… young rider."

---

Back at the crater, Kana breathes deeply.

Then she rises.

The sun is just starting to rise.

She turns toward the path ahead.

Her voice is hoarse. Quiet.

But strong.

"Your ride's over."

"Mine's just beginning."
