Ka-cha!
A door opened and Vivian stepped inside her bedroom.
Just to be sure, I rather run than fly…
She went toward an office desk.
That way, in case I get attacked in mid-air and I fall, I wouldn't have to use [Greater Origin Transformation] to heal myself when I land or transform and then expose myself…
She let out a sigh when she finally reached the office desk.
My [Primordial Beast]…
Completely useless…
She placed her hand on a box.
The box was an ice box that had Johann and Dirk's heads inside it.
I got a new Lore Magic, but it's completely useless…
[Metzger der Hunde]…
But it also causes terror to all hound-type beings…
What's the use of that…?
Seriously, what's the use of that…?
Do I look like someone who likes to go around killing dogs…?
No…!
It's people who are the ones who can't leave me alone or just mind their own fucking business…!
She let out another sigh as she grabbed the handle of the box.
Sometimes I miss being a man…
At least with being a man, I can just move around invisible because no one would bother me unless I initiate the interaction…
She carried the box as she headed for the door.
Knock, knock.
There was a knock on the door.
Vivian stopped in her tracks and raised an eyebrow.
A knock…?
"Sister Inquisitor Monad…?" a female voice asked behind the door.
"Wait," Vivian said and then resumed heading for the door.
Ka-cha!
When Vivian opened the door, there was a White Cloak Priestess and she gave a quick, slight bow.
"Sorry for bothering you, Sister Inquisitor, but there's a group of people who wish to speak with you."
"Who?"
"There are 3 groups: The first one is an Inquisitor who goes by the name Brother Inquisitor Pen, the second one is High Brother Claus from the Main Iron Chapter Temple, and the third one is Supreme Major Ulrich from the Iron Kingdom's Royal Palace."
So Pen came…
"Tell Brother Inquisitor Pen that I wish to speak with him in private. Set us a Meeting Room that's just me and him. If someone tries to block it, don't say anything and come to me immediately."
"Yes, Sister Inquisitor."
***
Ka-cha!
A door opened and Vivian stepped inside with the ice box, carrying Johann and Dirk's heads inside.
Ku-chud.
When she saw Pen sitting at the long table, she closed the door behind her and then went towards him.
Thud.
Vivian placed the box on top of the table and then saluted.
"Brother Inquisitor."
Pen stared at her for a moment before finally nodding.
"Sister Inquisitor."
Vivian placed her hand on one of the chairs.
"May I sit?"
"You may."
She sat down and then swept her gaze around her surroundings.
"Is this place safe from eavesdropping?"
"What exactly are you doing, sister? Have you lost your mind?"
She focused on Pen.
"Well, not that it matters if someone is eavesdropping or not."
Pen didn't say anything and simply stared at Vivian.
"I have a proposition for you, brother. But for this to work…"
Vivian removed her mask and then placed it on the table.
"...I will have to do this, so that you can understand how serious I am."
Pen remained silent.
Vivian, on the other hand, suppressed the urge to touch her face.
Oh my God…
I can't remember the last time I've spoken to someone without my mask…
It feels…
I feel so naked…
"You're aware of how many Magic Art Affinities I have, correct?"
"What about it?"
Vivian's eyes turned to slits.
This fucking old blueie…
"Brother, I'm trying to have a civil conversation with you. If you refuse to have a proper and civil conversation with me, then you can say goodbye to the proposition I was going to offer to you."
Pen let out a sigh.
"My apologies, please, go on."
Should I continue or just leave this blueie to dust…?
Whether this insect agrees to be on board my plan or not, it doesn't really matter…
Sure, it would be easier if he were on board...
And it would be hard if he weren't…
But either way…
I'd still win at the end…
"You're aware of how many Magic Art Affinities I have, correct?"
"Yes."
"Do you know what are my Magic Art Affinities?"
"Light, Lightning, Wind and Poison."
Vivian placed her right hand on her chest.
[Heal].
A faint yellow light enveloped her body.
She then formed a fist with her right hand.
[Enchant Lightning].
Lightning appeared on her fist, and then she deactivated it.
[Enchant Poison].
A green water-like aura appeared on her fist, and then she deactivated it.
[Enchant Soul].
A white water-like aura appeared on her fist, and then she deactivated it.
[Enchant Dark].
A dark and sinister aura appeared on her fist.
She deactivated the spell and then let out a smile as she leaned back in her seat.
"And as for my [Wind Mastery], well, I don't have [Enchant Wind] just yet. But I have my [Wind Arrow]. However, I've destroyed enough things today.
"But you at least understand what I'm trying to say, right?"
"You're saying that you have 6 Magic Art Affinities?" Pen asked.
"And I'm also planning to become the Light Saint."
Pen didn't say anything.
"Here's my proposition, brother: Help me become the Light Saint and I will fulfill your dream of bringing back the honor or glory of the Inquisitory Division and also course-correct the trajectory of where our Temple has been heading for a couple of generations now.
"But if you're not interested, it's still fine with me. You want to know why?"
"Regardless of whether I become the Light Saint during the day of election or after, once I master all of my 6 Magic Art Affinities, I'm claiming the seat.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm FULLY AWARE that if I forcefully try to take the seat, a civil war will happen within our Temple and many will die -- both weak and powerful.
"However, I'm also FULLY AWARE that once all the infighting is done, I'll be the one who's going to be left standing. After all, who can win against a being like me who has mastered 12 Physical Art Masteries and 6 Magic Art Affinities?
"And once that happens, with no one left to challenge me, I could finally take the Light Saint seat and shape our beloved Temple however I want.
"So what's your decision, brother?
"Will join and help me become the next Light Saint in order to fulfill your dream of bringing back the glory and honor of the Inquisitory Division and also course-correct the trajectory of where our Temple has been heading for a couple of generations now.
"Or would you continue relying, begging and kissing the feet of the Golden Families to do the changes you want?
"It's your choice, brother. And you only have this moment to decide."
Pen studied Vivian's face -- it was full of confidence and she was also serious about becoming the Light Saint, even if it meant usurping.
He removed his mask and then placed it on the table.
"Since you're being serious, I want to ask you a few questions.
"Why do you want to become the Light Saint? What's your real goal?"
Vivian smiled.
"My real goal? It's simple: I've finally realized what you told me before.
"You were right. No matter how much I try to hide it or stay low-profile, given my power, people would eventually come for me, whether it's for good intentions, bad intentions, or both.
"And the only solution I could think of is to become the Light Saint.
"That way, although I'd still have people come for me, at least I'll be able to reduce it or have some semblance of control."
"If that's what you're concerned about, wouldn't becoming a Cardinal be enough?" Pen asked.
Vivian raised an eyebrow.
"Why? I have 6 Magic Art Affinities and other Lore Magic spells that would guarantee me to overpower anyone. Even at this moment, I can already kill 5-Magic-Art beings with the snap of my fingers.
"As a matter of fact, I can even take over the Twin Kingdom, the Mableam Kingdom, and the Grahm Empire, and completely eradicate the Housan Empire and the rest of the demon-kin kingdoms if I want to.
"So why would I lower myself by becoming just a Cardinal?
"And plus, I like the sound of it: Her Holiness Light Saint Vivian compared to Cardinal Vivian."
"If I'm going to help you become the Light Saint, can you behave and follow my orders without any questions? We would need to gather allies for your Faction," Pen said.
"Fine."
"I'm serious, sister. If you're just going to continue this attitude of yours, killing people left and right, although your enemies might not be able to kill you, that doesn't mean they won't be able to kill or blackmail your allies."
"Yes, I promise."
"I also need you to promise that you won't lay your hand on any brother or sister."
"As long as they don't disrespect me or annoy me, I promise not to lay a hand on them."
Pen nodded.
"That's fair enough."
"So we have a deal?"
"I have one last question: Are you involved with Chaos?"
Vivian's brows knitted together and a confused expression flashed across her face.
"What? Ew, no. Why would I want to be associated with demon-kins? They're all so ugly and disgusting. I can only imagine how backwards, barbaric and alien their living conditions are. Like, ew. Seriously, ew."
Pen said nothing.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say anything wrong? We can even use Affinity Crystals right now to see if I have Lesser Chaos or Chaos."
Pen shook his head.
"There's no need. We have a deal," he said and then turned to the ice box. "What's inside that box?"
"The heads of the heretics who tried to kill me."
"You need to return them and forget your grudge with the Halb'hund and the Halb'mensch family. I will broker a peace deal with them. If they refuse, we'll find another way."
Vivian knitted her brows.
"Huh? Find another way? Those people tried to assassinate me while I was doing an investigation at Gru'n Town. If I weren't powerful or at least strong enough to defend myself, I wouldn't be here. I refuse."
"Didn't you just say that you would behave and follow my orders if I were to help you become the Light Saint?"
"But these are outsiders, they aren't part of our Temple. And plus, shouldn't we showcase to the world the power of Inquisitors and why people shouldn't mess with Inquisitors?"
Pen nodded.
"I understand what you're saying. But you also have to understand that I'm buying us more positive sentiment.
"Right now, you've already proven your point that the Inquisitory Division shouldn't be messed with.
"However, you must also understand that Aristocratic Noble families don't just hold physical power, they also hold economic power. So if the economy of the Iron Kingdom is going to drop or crash, we have to make sure that it isn't mainly because of us.
"I'll broker a peace deal with them that heavily favors us. And each time they reject it to renegotiate, I will slowly lessen our advantage bit by bit but will also slowly increase the time of delay. However, in the end, I'll still make sure that we have the advantage.
"Just make sure that you will do your part."
"Okay," Vivian said.
"We also have to deal with the representatives who came here to see you."
***
Ka-cha!
A door opened, and a man in his mid-60s with long blonde and gray hair wearing a set of white-colored armor and a black cape entered.
He paused for a moment as he swept his gaze around the Meeting Room until he finally saw the person he was looking for: Vivian, who was sitting in the lounging area, but was accompanied by Pen.
When he reached the lounging area, he saluted.
"I am Supreme Major Hannes of the Iron Kingdom's Royal Palace. It's a pleasure to meet both of you," he said and then focused on Vivian. "You must be the one they call Priestess Inquisitor Monad."
Vivian crossed her legs and folded her arms as she leaned backward in her seat.
"What do you want?"
"Answers."
"About what?"
Hannes turned to Pen.
Pen gave a slight bow.
"Supreme Major Hannes, it's a pleasure to meet you. I am Brother Inquisitor Pen and the Overall Commanding Officer of the Field Mission," he said and then gestured to one of the vacant sofas. "Please have a seat for a moment."
Hannes sat down.
"I believe there has been a major miscommunication," Pen said.
Hannes raised an eyebrow.
"A major miscommunication? How so?"
"My colleague here, Sister Inquisitor Monad, was conducting a Field Mission investigation last night when former Supreme Captain Lord Konrad of the Halb'hund and the Halb'mensch family suddenly tried to assassinate her.
"After failing to ask him why he attacked her, she then proceeded to go to Caslte of Hun'de to ask His Excellency Duke Johann and his family why they tried to assassinate her. But unfortunately, that also didn't work out."
"What is this Field Mission that you people were investigating?" Hannes asked.
"Forgive me, Supreme Major, but just like we don't have any authority to ask or interfere with the investigations of the Knights Chapter, you people also have no authority to ask or interfere with the investigations of the Holy Crusade," Pen said.
"Your people attacked an Aristocratic Noble Family."
"Your people are the ones who attacked first."
"With all due respect, Priest Inquisitor, but you and everyone here are fully aware that the Halb'hund and the Halb'mensch family are under so many restrictions due to their powerful Lore Magic. Only the leaders of the Twin Kingdom and the Holy Kingdom can lift up those restrictions and send them out on Chapter Missions."
"So you're saying that the leaders of the Twin Kingdom and the Holy Kingdom are the ones who ordered Lord Konrad to assassinate Sister Inquisitor Monad while she was on a Field Mission conducting an investigation?"
"I'm not saying that."
"Then what exactly are you saying, Supreme Major? Please, if you don't mind, please explain it to us."
Hannes maintained a passive expression.
Normally, he would have the upper hand in such scenarios due to his Physical and Magic Force. However, in this case, since the Priestess Inquisitor named "Monad" is said to be capable of fighting and killing the the Halb'hund and the Halb'mensch family all by herself, one of the most powerful Aristocratic Noble families, if he raises his hand and a fight broke out between them here in Halb'hund Town and causing many civilians to die, he and the group(s) he represent would be the one in trouble.
"Where is Lord Konrad?"
Pen turned to Vivian, who shrugged.
"I don't know. After I almost beat him, he suddenly turned into a [Primordial Beast] and escaped. Unfortunately, I don't have such a Skill to chase him."
Hannes got up.
"I will take my leave. It was a pleasure meeting you both."
