Adam's stare drifted across the room to the woman who lounged with an almost unnerving calm, showing not even a flicker of emotion in her eyes.
She was composed—too composed—and something in that quiet determination stirred a strange tug inside his chest.
Don't even think like that, Adam, his subconscious warned before he could let the thought settle.
Before he could push the feeling aside, her phone began to ring. Code X answered in her usual clipped tone.
"Yes, Boss?... Right now? … Okay, I'll give it to him."
She lowered the phone and extended it toward him.
"Boss wants to talk to you about something. Here he is."
Almost against his will, Adam took the phone from her hand. A ripple of unease shot through him. What now? What could he possibly want?
"Hello?" he said cautiously.
"Since I didn't get a revert call from my people, I assume you're doing well and the therapy helped."
The unmistakable voice of Prince Aaron flowed through the speaker.
