The car emitted a piercing screech of brakes.
Gu Lanshan's ears rang with a faint ache.
Upon hearing the sound, the servants inside the house hurried out and saw that both Sheng Shi and Gu Lanshan had returned together. Everyone glanced at the time; it was only half past six. They were slightly surprised but, being shrewd, the Housekeeper quickly smiled and opened the door, saying, "Mr. Sheng, Lady Shan, you've returned quite early today."
Gu Lanshan followed behind Sheng Shi; neither of them spoke as they stepped into the room.
The servants could vaguely sense that something was off between Sheng Shi and Gu Lanshan, so each quickly scattered to busily attend to their own tasks, leaving the living room suddenly empty.
Sheng Shi went straight to the water dispenser, filled two cups with warm water, and held them in his hands as he walked back to Gu Lanshan. He offered her one of the cups with a gentle tone, even with a trace of a smile, "Have some water."
