Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Last of AE

Amongst the chaos Iron 99 was trying to leave, but due to the falling objects he couldn't fly straight. AE was destroyed and was now in a dilapidating state the Skylanders then decided it was time to engage with the creature and take its core, now they tried to get the creature's attention. As the creature was rushing towards them something that looked like a wall was falling and Iron 99 realized that it was in Ave's line of direction, he used all his energy going pass his limits to reach Ave pushing her out of the way and getting hit instead. The wall slammed down on Iron 99 and Ave felt the push and noticed Iron 99 saved her life but in return he lost his. She thought Lynx would be sad if he found out and now all her emotions were overflowing, first her father and now Iron 99. She started calling out to him crying more than before injuring her hands as she tried lifting the wall, but she could hardly feel the pain and kept trying to lift the wall. She gripped onto the wall breaking her nails as her fingers started bleeding, as her hands slipped it scratched over the sharper ends of the wall causing her hands to be covered in blood. She was tried to pry the wall off Iron 99 and seeing his paw she gained strength and continued to lift the wall. She choked back all her tears filling her thoughts of only saving Iron 99 for Lynx.

Iron 99 managed to crawl out, but he was much damaged. She hugged him as she was relieved that he was alive, but Iron 99 pushed her scampering limply away as he needed to get back to his master. Iron 99's focus was only to return to Lynx and so he slowly made his way back to Lynx. Lynx finally reached the community or what once was the community, he wasn't sure how he managed to reach AE, but he somehow made it. He looked around with a pounding heart that drummed in echoes within his chest, looking at the destroyed community of AE, the houses and buildings were flatten, lying on there sides and rested upside-down and because of luck few were left standing as they were slightly tilted to one side. Lynx never expected to see AE in such a state, everything was gone, and the buildings were destroyed so much that Lynx could hardly tell where everything once stood.

Sorrowful and disturbing thoughts swarmed around his head gripping his temples, the thoughts of the worse whispered chilly against his ear and the fear chained his feet to the ground stopping his movements, seeing the disaster before him the most logical thing to do was to get away, but he couldn't bring himself to. Lynx shook of his shackles, took a deep breath and pushed everything to the back of his head, trying to ignore everything before his eyes, but it was a useless attempt, if he wanted to ignore everything before his maybe he should go blind, but even if he went blind the dreaded hostility may grant him vision, maybe even more that what his eyes could see. With his mind still fighting he started calling out names. especially to those he knew.

"Iron 99!"

"Ave!"

"Han"

"K, Lil!"

"Pall, LC!" Lynx kept calling out but he received no answer. The ground trembled under him and he tried to keeping his balance, but because of his injuries he dropped to his knees, a building a few meters away toppled over as the dust clouded engulfing it. The barriers were no more so he could see the fight taking place in the distance, but he didn't care about that he just needed to find someone especially Iron 99. He continued calling out each shout louder or quieter than the last while dragging his weaken body, finally he heard Iron 99's low whimpering bark. Lynx ran as if he has been recharged following the sound, all of a sudden it's like his injuries were just a mere scratch. Lynx saw that the fight was being pushed back to where he heard Iron 99 and there was no way he would make it in time as the layout of the grounds were too much for him to cross over. Lynx climbed up a building that rested on its head, scanning his eyes he saw Iron 99 a few houses away, he was lying among the debris barely moving, Lynx knew he must be very injured if he wasn't moving. Lynx kept moving as the fight drew closer to Iron 99 by every passing second. With quick thinking Lynx took the megaphone from his bag and inhaled before shouting with all the air in his lungs.

"Move! don't step back!" Lynx screamed as the sound echoed reaching the Skylanders ears but they didn't care and ignored him, but Lynx kept shouting at them nonetheless, he couldn't give up. Lynx fought his body to keep moving, despite the tremendous pain. He couldn't move any further, he felt numb and as if the world was getting silent. The fight drew closer and closer to Iron 99 and then right before Lynx's eyes he saw as one of the Skylanders stepped on Iron 99 and a weak bark escaped. Lynx's eyes widen as he froze watching as they rose their feet from Iron 99. After a few seconds Lynx processed everything and screamed out Iron 99's name in an agonizing desperate tone until he felt his vocal cords tearing apart and tears rolled down his face. Lynx gained strength and kept moving rushing to where Iron 99 was, his throat was hurting and he kept coughing up blood, but he ignored everything. Upon reaching the only thing he saw was the sunk in ground, tears poured down his cheeks even more and then his body finally gave in and he fainted, losing consciousness, drifting into a world of darkness.

His eyes weakly fluttered open not knowing how long he had been passed out, he could feel his head buzzing from pain as he slowly looked around trying to remember what happened, he held his throat and squinted his eyes as he looked around and slowly the memories started flooding in. In a distant the Skylanders were standing aimlessly which meant the creature was defeated, but Lynx didn't care about them. Ever muscle in Lynx's body was screaming out as he shifted his body and tried to stand, as he stood up he saw the hole before him and the memories played clearly in his mind. He forced his body to get closer and when he did he saw Iron 99 pressed into the ground as if he was printed there, one of his eyes were missing and his legs were on one side of his body, Lynx wanted to embrace him, but he was so weak and if he went down there the possibility of him climbing back up were very low. He then took a pole that was within reach for support and slowly pulled himself calling out to the others.

"Miss Myr!" "Leader Mitt!" "K!" "Ave!" "LC!" Lynx called out but there was no answer.

"Anyone!" he shouted even louder but still he was answered with silence.

He kept dragging himself for about a minute and then he spotted Ave but his body grew heavy as he saw her sticking from a rod bleeding out. He was shocked as he almost fell. He walked staggering closer to her and as he was close enough, it was very clear, she was dead. Lynx's voice tighten and his gut felt twisted, he drew desperate and looked around calling out once more clinging to the thin grimace of hope that someone was alive, he didn't want to believe that it was possible for everyone to be dead. But everyone he passed was a laying corpse. He spotted Han's body, but as he got closer he only saw the upper half and his dying face statued in terror, his other half was history. Lynx called out desperately straining his voice even more, but despite that he still managed to shout out, the pain meant nothing. Soon Lynx went back to where Iron 99 was and tried to think of a way to get to him, maybe he could help him. Even though everyone was dead Lynx tried to deny the fact and still believed they were alive while burying the plain truth away in his head. He went close to the hole that Iron 99 was slowly making his way down, but even though he was careful he suddenly slipped over some pebbles and stumbled downwards as he felt the pain even more. He pressed his teeth together trying to block his cries. Lynx tighten his eyes as he forced himself up, the sight before him caused his head feel dizzy and his world was spinning. He didn't know Iron 99 the longest but he considered him as his closest friend and family, and now his closest family was dead, lifeless before his eyes. Iron 99's core had been destroyed and his color had faded, his limbs were being pushed from the main body as if the body and the limbs were giving different charges.

Lynx knelt before Iron 99 with tears streaming down his face, he could feel his mind shattering, but he was still in denial. The Skylanders walked over to where Lynx was and looked down at him from above and started apologizing mockingly towards him.

"We're sorry we stepped on your hunk of metal, we really meant to do that. Haha", the man laughed as he added pressure to the word 'meant' as they all stood there laughing.

Lynx was going through a lot of emotions he didn't understand and started to confuse himself. He clutched his head and dragged on his hair before shouting out.

"Why?!" he screamed before them grabbing their attention as they were talking and laughing amongst themselves. They looked at Lynx as he held his head low again.

"Why is all this happening? Why me? Wait, wait this isn't real everyone is fine and Iron 99 is alive, they're all alive" Lynx kept rambling out loud as the Skylanders looked at him and one of them then made a spiraling motion at the side of his head saying Lynx was going crazy and then they all burst out laughing. Lynx then slowly looked up to them as their voice caught his attention.

"We have arms and legs, eyes and senses and a lot similarities. So why? Aren't we all the same? We're just people, just like you" Lynx spoke as tears covered his dirty, bloody face and ragged body.

They laughed at him even more upon hearing him.

"We're nothing alike, you guys down here are nothing but Rats and Scums. To be honest you all are in the way and you all simply deserve to die" the man spoke as he looked at Lynx with disgust and despise in his eyes. Lynx's eyes swung open when he heard the words 'You're in the way', the words played on repeat in his mind like a broken screenplay. The phrase felt familiar and then he unlocked a lost memory, a memory he didn't know ever existed or a memory he blocked from his thoughts. The flashback played freshly in his mind as if he was reliving everything that happened then.
