He had a right to be frustrated, because this tower didn't make any sense. He expected to find several mages here, and even though such mages could've been hostile, they could at least give some information if enough pressure was put against them.
What they found here instead was confusing, and from the looks of it, they'd need to browse this rounded library in order to figure the tower out. This could take a while, and the hatch had closed shut on top of them as well, so they could starve to death here if not worse.
Everything, including their food and sleeping bags were left behind. Greg carried them, and he was beyond that toxic pool of water. In other words, if they didn't figure this tower out in less than a day, then they might as well kill themselves, because all of their effort would go in vain!
