Chapter 281 - Story 20 Diggy Diggy Hole Chapter 12

Yang Liu brought me deeper into the city of Nan-Gau and explained how he was leading me to the main government building where is uncle was one of the guard captains and someone of some note despite not being nobility or dragon blooded.

And while he led me around, he helpfully gave me some warnings I need to pay attention to as I was as foreign to the local land as possible obviously. Such as the fact that culturally speaking, I was rather low on the social totem pole.

Not only was I foreign, but I wasn't human, not only was I not even human, but I wasn't even dragon blooded or married into a noble family. So I was in for a bit of a hard time... Normally.

But I had little intent to smooze up with the Umgi nobles and the dragon blooded half breeds.

"Now I don't suppose you have any wine on you? My uncle is man who does enjoy his drink." Yang Liu spoke and I blinked before nodding.

"I do have some drink on me from my homeland I am willing to use to forge a bond of business and friendship with him." I said firmly as should his uncle be able to help me get my foot underneath me.

I most certainly wasn't going to shame the dawi by owing him anything for the favor.

The main government building, the Chingxi. Was a large circular castle with large cannon's built into the walls and onto the roofs so that should the city of Nan-Gau be invaded, that main castle would be able to rain explosives across the city while the castle itself was heavily... Very heavily warded.

Yang Liu was able to get past the guards standing in front of the building by saying I had an appointment with his uncle and we were let in without any major fuss with him towards a large side room that looked to be an officer rest area or something.

With the young Umgi leading me to an older man who was sitting down in a rocking chair next to a window that was opened so he could smoke his pipe. "Little Liu, what have you brought to me now." He growled in a grizzly voice.

And I could see that this older Umgi was a man of battle as his face had several scar's across it... Probably lightning scar's actually, and one of his eyes was blinded clearly with it's milky tone.

"Uncle, this young dwarf is an Apprentice Runesmith and wants to ply his trade here in the city. I wanted to bring him to you. So you could either aid him or push him up the chain of command." Yang Liu spoke with deference to the older man.

Said older man looked down at me with his one good eye and said bluntly. "What can you do lad? I may be wealthy after fifty years of service and doing the hard job's but I don't want to waste my money and favors."

I took a breath and returned calmly. "I don't want your money. I want a workshop I can open or control so I may continue to ply my trade. Selling powerful enchanted weapons, armor, and tools while I do my research on my trade."

I was well aware the Umgi's wouldn't see the value in a Runesmith like myself just yet. That value was also why I didn't run to another clan of Dawi as well... They wouldn't allow me to complete my blood debt to the Thaggoraki unless they came to their hold anyway.

The older man stared at me hard for a moment before he asked calmly. "What do I get for aiding you, young dwarf?"

I wanted to shrug but I held it in and said calmly. "A weapon and suit of armor enchanted by my hands with runes of power for a son of each generation of your bloodline for as long as I live. And with how I will be living for at least three hundred years with myself being a runesmith..."

There was a pause before the man brought a scarred hand that was missing his pinkie across his bearded lower face before he ordered. "Let me see a weapon you enchanted lad. I want to see what I am investing in."

After a moment of thought, I put down a large glowing crossbow that I had enchanted with the enchantment's Infinity, Mending, and Multishot. "This crossbow has the enchantments that allow it to copy any arrows shot out giving it infinite bolt's and never needing a new bolt to be put in. Also, any bolts shot out will create two more bolts as they are in the air."

"You... Pulled the giant crossbow from inside of your cloak. Is that also enchanted to hold more things?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and I gave him a knowing look.

Then I said calmly. "No, how I carried more stuff isn't to do with my cloak. Either way, this is one example of enchanted weapons I can make. Imagine a whole line of men using these on a battlefield, never having to put new bolts in. And in reality, with the multishot enchantment, you are basically tripling the number of archer's you have."

He nodded with him brushing his hand through his beard again before he said with a bit more excitement. "And what kind of armor do you have Master Dwarf?"

I shrugged and I brought out a couple different pieces of simple plate mail I had made under Snorlot's direction. "I am not so well versed in armor, to be honest. It's far harder to enchant without a large setup as there is a lot of moving separate parts to make up the whole."

Even as I said that I pointed out the protection enchantments, along with the thorn's enchantments I had on the armor as Thorn's level five as an enchantment hard fucks people and monsters if they weren't paying attention as much.

"Hmm, let's go test this crossbow at the archery training range. And if it works as you said. Then I got someone important for you to meet. And what is your name young dwarf?" He asked as he got up with a grunt of effort.

"My name is Kharn of Clan Barruk, what is your name?" I asked in turn.

He grunted out calmly. "Yang Xioloni, guard captain of the first regiment of Nan-Gua. Come with me, we make for the archery range. Little Liu, you go back to your post, I got it from here." He said to his nephew who gave me a nod before bowing to his uncle and leaving ahead of us.
