When the kid regained consciousness he was in a cell. As he tries to look around he notices an undead locked up in the cell opposite to him. As the steps forward to look closer he steps on an insect. When he looked down he saw the entire floor was filled with there tiny thing and the corners had the largest collections of them.
"Gross." Said the boy in disgust. But then a voice came from above.
"You! why are you here?"
It was Oscar.
"I am not aware. All I remember is falling asleep at a tavern."
"Tavern? There are no taverns here."
"I am aware. Would you give me the keys to the cell? I will die of hunger otherwise."
"Step back."
Oscar then throughs an motionless undead down the opening.
"Meet me at the bonfire." Said Oscar and then he left.
The boy took the key from the motionless undead and unlocked his cell with it. When he exited his cell and saw the cell placement he came to a realization. The cell with the chosen undead in it is still locked.
The boy walks closer to the cell and sees a female undead inside curled up in a ball. The boy knocks the cell door and this caught the undead' s attention.
"Can you still talk?" asked the boy.
"Yes, I can still talk. But I don't have any memory of my past."
"I can help you retain your humanity but I will need you loyalty in exchange."
"Will it bring back my memories?"
"I don't know. But you will be able to make new memories from then on."
"You have my loyalty."
The boy then opened her cell and stepped back. The female undead then stood up and exited the cell. She must have been 6 feet tall because the boy only reached her shoulders when she stood in front of him.
The boy then turned around and made his way to the bonfire. He also killed the other hollows on his way out with a metal rod he picked up from the broken cell and The female undead followed closely behind him.
When they reached the bonfire they saw Oscar sitting nearby.
"I see you found a friend. I hope she doesn't go hollow while you are asleep." said Oscar as he looked at the female undead.
"You see that demon over there? The one on the roof right there."
"I can't believe I missed that."
"We need to defeat that thing if we want to get out of this place. And for that we need all the help we can get."
"Hmm... I am Oscar, Knight of Astora."
"I am John."
"I don't remember my name." said the female undead.
"How about I give you a new one?"
"I accept the offer."
"Let me think about it a little bit longer."
John then sits near the bonfire and expected to see his system appear but it didn't. John then tried using keywords and voice commands but nothing happed. He was starting to get concerned about his safety now. John then checked his pockets and found a notebook in his sweat pant.
John opened the notebook and read its contents only to be shocked in fear. The notebook said,
"You need to kindle an undead to keep the fire from fading, that's your mission. In order for you to have even the slightest chance of succeeding you will need food otherwise you will starve to death. And food is rare out there so I gave you a system. You will be able to exchange food for souls using the system. To access the system open the last page of the notebook.
That is the only help you are going to get from me. Now, Good Luck with you mission."
This meant John can't return to the bonfire after dead and nether could he level up. He also doesn't have the inventory to stockpile stuff but he can collect and store souls. Just as John was about to panic a voice called him.
"Are you ok?" Said Oscar after seeing John acting strangely.
This remained John of where he was and then he clammed himself down.
"Yeah, I am fine."
"Good. Now, how are we going to defeat that demon."
"First we need to collect equipment for me and her."
John then looked at the gate near the bonfire. Normally in the game you would need to open it from the other side but this is not a game. John placed the metal rob between the bars and then pushed the bar aiming to create a gap in the door through which he can insert his hand. However he wasn't strong enough to do it on his own so he asked Oscar and the female undead for help.
The two of them together managed to make a gap big enough for me to inserting my hand and open the lock. John then travelled to the other bonfire and the other two followed. Whenever a hollow showed up Oscar would take care of it.
John found the following items from the area,
Leather Armor Leather Gloves
Leather Gloves Leather Boots
Leather Boots
Shortsword
Large Leather Shield
Short Bow
Standard Arrow x30
Wooden Arrow x10 (from the hollow archer)
John gave all the items and equipment to the female undead as this was probably her starting class. Besides, he doesn't have an inventory and carrying them around would be very tiring. John could have picked the short bow from that hollow but it's durability was very low and would probably break after firing a few shots.
Now the only thing left to do was to kill the boss and John made a plan to exploit the absence of the fog gate. The other two agreed on John's plan and went to position.
