Chapter 32 - Episode 5/Chapter 32: The Magic of Rest Areas

The sky was now a gradient dark blue, pink, and orange as the sun descended under the horizon. Oliver was nearing the end of his shift after driving approximately 10 hours and 45 minutes. He takes a loud sip of his tea and lets out a refreshing sigh. There was almost nothing like running your clock down for a full shifts worth of driving and then pulling over and getting ready for a 10 hour rest break. To help prepare him for sleep, Olivers favorite radio talk show host blabbered on about something that Oliver was only half listening to as he kept his mind busy thinking about all the lounging around he would be doing in his castle back in England after retiring from the trucking industry.

"They want rights, they want citizenship-" The radio talk show host rambled, "they want to be treated like people, but are they people? What makes them like us? How in the world are they like you and I? Us humans?"

The ELD device tooted a little sound indicating a warning that Olivers time was almost up and he needed to shut down soon or risk getting a DOT violation. So, he takes the exit ramp for a rest area. It was nearly empty of any other trucks or cars, just how he liked it. Just as Oliver parked and pulled out the brakes, Andrew rips open the curtains, stretching and yawning obnoxiously.

"Alright!" Andrew says, "That was some damn good bunch of sleeping I did. I feel like I can drive around the planet in one shift."

"I got us most of the way there", Oliver says, "so there's not much driving for you to do. About 4 hours."

"Right on." Andrew drops down into the passenger seat and starts setting up his shift on the ELD device.

"And don't forget to do your pre-trip inspection this time!" Oliver snarls.

"Chill out, dude. I got this."

Oliver grumbled then disappeared behind the bunk curtain.

The night couldn't be more perfect to do a pre-trip inspection Andrew thought as he thumped the tires of the truck with the tire thumper then made his way down the trailer to do the same for the trailer tires. After knocking on the first trailer tire, another thump is heard in response. Andrew thinks it weird but continues on to the next, but then he hears another in response again. He thumps the tire again, and darn it, another thump right back at him. It sounded like it was coming from inside the trailer. Andrew puts his ear to the trailer wall and taps again lightly and sure enough, another thump on the wall in response. Someone or something inside the trailer was fucking with him. Then, he hears what sounded like voices in there!

"Shit! Someones in there!" Andrew says out loud. He hurries to the back of the trailer and examines the thorny seal.

"I'm not touching that, I'll prick myself…" Andrew takes out his pocket knife and slashes the seal which easily cut in half and fell to the ground. Strangely, the seal withered and evaporated into a small cloud of what could only be described as darkness.

Andrew pulls the trailer doors open and peers inside. The voices were much clearer now but he couldn't see a damn thing. He takes out his phone and turns on the flashlight. Inside, Andrew is feasted to the sight of stacks of cages and what appeared to be tiny people inside!

"What the?!" Andrew is in awe at what he's seeing. The tiny people were about the length of his hand. They had colorful hair and glowing colorful eyes. Andrew is startled by a voice right beside him.

"Excuse me?" The tiny voice said. Andrew shines his flashlight on the tiny creature. This one looked like a tiny woman with swirly, colorful hair of pinks and purples and wore some overalls that were cut off at the knees. Furthermore, she had pale blue little wings on her back and slippers of the same color on her feet. She was rubbing her hands together nervously.

"Whoah! I must still be tripping on that magic milk or something!" Andrew says. "Who the hell are you?"

"My names Teenie", she answers. "Teenie T. Choo Choo. I'm a fairy."

"A fairy?!" Andrew yells. "Holy Dragon shit!"
