There would be a distance between them, so she needed to be able to close that distance very quickly.
That could not be achieved so easily if the guard of Stephan was raised and he was being extra cautious.
That was why she needed a single moment of distraction.
That was why she needed to know the environment even more so that she could make use of whatever was around her to provide enough of a distraction or anything else that could buy her the time she needed to gain an advantage over Stephan.
Once she started backing off, she was within reach of some things that were behind her.
The moment that Stephan looked away from her was the moment that she grabbed whatever was within reach and threw it at him.
She could not allow him to reach for a weapon or to grab anything else from the surroundings, so it needed to be ended quickly, which was why she charged in and took him down right away once she gave herself such an opportunity to take advantage of.
