Guys… it's hard for me to say this… but I'm afraid I overestimated my abilities. I thought I'd have more time to handle two stories at once, but due to my current circumstances, I just can't. My mandatory pro bono service is consuming all my free time.
Usually, each intern is given around 20 cases to handle over six months, and they're not too difficult since they follow standard procedures. I have 79 cases under a special procedure for the protection of children and adolescents' rights. On average, each case involves about 400 pages of reports, complaints, and facts.
I've been putting off the responsibility of writing, editing, or translating the chapters… but I simply don't have the time. I have to call parents, coordinate with public institutions, move all over the city speaking with prosecutors, go to court several times a week. The only way I've managed to write at all has been by sacrificing sleep.
I thought I'd have everything ready between Friday and Sunday for the 15th, but I've been assigned 3 new highly complex cases, and I'll need almost the entire weekend to study them.
If anyone wonders why I'm putting this story on hold and continuing with the other one—it's because that's a joint project with a friend who asked me as a personal favor.
I hate breaking promises. I truly hate it. That's why it hurts me deeply to say that I need to put this on hiatus, at least until I can finish this damn internship that's draining the life out of me.
